Before you know it, it’s time to get ready to work for the next 7 hours and then do it all over again the next day.

I like to get in one overnight per month if I can. Get to the hotel, check out a new city and relax for a bit with no other responsibilities.
I can see that. You already know but it’s up to you to educate your spouse that’s it’s your legal responsibility to be rested for work. If that means chilling on the couch til show time or at the beach or on the boat after school drop off or skipping drop off all together and sleeping in then that’s what needs to happen. Treat home like the overnight of you are in a block of day trips. Going grocery shopping and doing a bunch of chores isn’t what you’d be doing at a hotel.

Also you need to give your wives time to see their boyfriends while you’re away. I remember flying with a super senior captain many years ago who said that getting to the level of holding weekday turns ruined his marriage because he had to start sleeping with his wife again. To this day I still don’t know if he was joking or not….

Any idea how the merger is affecting hiring over the next few months? I've heard that things have slowed down on the B6 side and that NK may soon be slowing down their hiring too

Any slowing will be the result of softening demand and NEO groundings, not the merger.

Yes, DOJ told them to take a hike.

This. While I don’t share the sentiment that the ULCC model is singing it’s siren song, and think demand will return, the NEO issue is a bigger problem for those airlines more exposed to issues on a single type, the way Southwest was to the Max. Still, even with some planes parked I don’t expect hiring to fall off as we still need FO’s and also need to upgrade more captains. Win, lose, or draw with the merger I don’t see Spirit slowing on hiring for the foreseeable future.

Figured I’d ask in here since there’s more of a discussion going. Let’s say the Judge rules in favor of the merger. The DOJ appeals, and then it appeals all the way to the SCOTUS.. What happens next? Does the airline move forward with the merger as if it’s happening? So would they begin the process of JCBA and SLI after the Judges ruling? Or would they have to wait for the entire appeal process to play out? Asking to anyone familiar with the process or has been through it.

I don’t see an appeal by the DOJ if they lose in court. More likely that Jet Blue would appeal if the deal is ultimately blocked. They had a former Antitrust member from the Biden Administration on CNBC who confirmed that this Administration is going to challenge all mergers whether they will be successful or not. They are not afraid to lose, but want to discourage future deals. Previous administrations were more concerned with their win percentage and would likely not have brought this weak of a case to court. Their current opinion is that all mergers are bad for consumers and must be blocked!

The appellate courts are always at their disposal, but if the judge rules in favor of the merger things would proceed unless the DOJ is able to obtain some type of injunction in the meantime. Still there would have to be grounds for an appeal for it to be heard, and it would have to be something egregious to obtain an injunction while that played out. I would think the DOJ would be hard pressed to find some type of Constitutional violation that would cause the SCOTUS to even touch an Anti Trust case with plenty of precedent for airline mergers.
