Maybe they figured out paying 200% is cheaper than a systemwide meltdown. Open time disappeared in my base pretty quickly.

I mean yeah, its great I guess. Only downside is I dont have much hope that this will actually change anything and is just a bandaid.

Hopefully this shouldn’t be a long term wave, if the majority of these call ins are in fact covid related. I have heard the FA side is getting hit hard with sick calls; and they were already understaffed going into this wave. At least it’s the entire industry.

In the meantime, I’ll enjoy the extra New Years cheddar in my check.

What’s the catch? This isn’t very Bendover… maybe his job is finally on the line due to all of the IROPs (fingers crossed)

you GUESS making double pay is great? For me ill make extra 27 hours of pay over the next 5 days. Have you seen how many X list calls have been going out ? This is a tough time of year staffing wise on a NORMAL year.. due to staffing and Covid this is a crazy few weeks. Sick calls are coming in faster than they can pick up the phones. And having a small
army Calling hundreds of crew members daily to offer 200% seems inefficient to me. I think this was an affective move to keep butts in seats during a tough weekly stretch. I personally think This was a sound business decision and is separate form the larger issue of pilot staffing that will manifest in unforeseen ways for in the coming months. This is to keep airplanes in the air for THIS week. Airline stays up and running and those of us working make extra cheddar. It’s a win-win. Don’t look a gift horse in the mouth.

I agree. They might be realizing their stubbornness to open their wallets to prevent further meltdowns is needed.

Look how often they offer blanket 200% on the FA side for pickups and how selective it is on the pilot side. Bendo said that’s because it just causes pilots to pick up at 200%, making those coverage days green, and guys drop, putting them right back int their hole again. Maybe they are figuring it out that if you incentivize not calling out, you don’t need to scramble filling trips at 200%

I still don't know why they RARELY mark open time as premium that's not X/Y list. It would solve virtually all of their pilot staffing issues.
