Courtesy of the recent bid, whenever they figure it out, many of us don’t have either option and have families uninterested in moving. But sitting reserve in base prior had me barely flying if encumbered 18 days a month.

Ourphone tree is most assuredly blown up again. Give it two days while they try to stand up the operation and line holders will start getting calls.

IAH has the worst thunderstorms in the country and UA seems to be able to figure it out, and it probably has less to do with weather and more to do with them not waiting hours to get rescheduled or find a hotel.

So yes it is possible to run a heavily utilized operation out of Florida, otherwise we would just move everything to the perfect year round weather of Saint Diego and call it a day.

new hire FO requirements - enough credit card balance availability to buy hotels for yourself for IROPS (even though Spirit will reimburse)

United pays their schedulers well and UAL ALPA has an ALPA rep full time in their OCS full time 24/7. It works

United melts down just fine. What’s the nearest UAL base to IAH? Denver? It’s a rare day when a singular event can shut down 2-3 bases simultaneously for them. For NKS it just takes a cold front running from ATL to south Florida. And it’s 2 of our 3 busiest bases.

UAL assuredly does this better than NKS does, but it’s also an apples to oranges comparison. How does WN handle it would be a better comparison. Whether that’s Florida or Texas getting TSRA+ed.

While I won't downplay the lack of operational support compared to other airlines, Florida does absolutely suck from an ATC perspective. It is constantly cut in half by thunderstorms and you can't go west (for the most part) because of military airspace and can't go too far east over the Atlantic. Thus insane congestion causing stupid lengthy delays that other areas of the country with storms are able to recover from much quicker because they can depart in every direction. Is what it is, company could do better but having the "fortress" be in the worst possible location atc/weather wise is a combo for failure.

Can't leave Florida because it is a cash cow.

Florida is a vacation destination and FULL of low income. It’s our market. We can’t leave and we have to have sizable operations with rsv coverage or we would be toast. Only thing Orlando and San Diego have in common is they both have a Sea World. Not the same population.

What a joke. So X list trips have a 14 minute wait time and a hotel call is 96 minutes. I hope everyone is booking their own hotels or calling a chief vs these hold times.

It’s clear the IROP phone delays are never going to stop and if call wait times are 96 minutes, it means we have people waiting 96 minutes on hold. Why?!
Why?

Because when you email each other back and forth and in-between take your dog for a walk, change the babies diaper, take a grumpy, it adds up to bout 96 minutes!

Stupid Fing scheduling should be back in the office! How Jordan gets away with this b-shat and bendo isn't fired is beyond belief.

Whew, I feel better now, thanks for listening. 🤣
