Commuting as a new hire/training
Hello,
I’ve got an interview coming up with spirit in a couple of weeks and am super grateful for this opportunity. Currently a FO at a regional living in Seattle, WA and expect to have my upgrade class coming up in a couple months or so. I wanted to reach out to some of the folks here and ask how tough would the commute be and where could I expect to be based out of training as a new hire junior FO? I heard long call is 13 hours so I believe that would be enough time for me to make it out to Detroit or FLL or what not. Has anyone made this commute being a new hire? Also, debating whether it would be smart for me to pass up on the upgrade currently and start over again at spirit. Any advice would be appreciated. To sum it up: junior bases? Commuting? How long on reserve initially? Worth the risk of skipping left seat? I thank you all in advance for your responses.

Long call is 14hr call out. If you got called at home 6-10pm at home in SEA you think you could make it to DTW or FLL in 14hrs?? I don’t think so and if you could I wouldn’t want to be flying with you. I’d plan on a crash pad and short call rsv.

Why wouldn’t you commute to Vegas? We do flights everyday to and from Seattle. Even if you couldn’t get it right out of class, my assumption is you could on the next bid. Chances are you could get it before finishing IOE.

Pretty sure that commute didn’t work out too well in the past. *Cough* Colgan *cough* Go to Vegas or plan on a crashpad so you are properly rested.

What’s the risk of skipping the left seat of a Q400? Ahh, stepping stone Spirit? Recruiting department be on the lookout for a Horizon FO interviewing in a few weeks! 🚨
Haha. Damn. “To go to Spirit or upgrade at Horizon”

Haha. Is this what we have become? An FO at a Regional looking at Spirit as “starting over”

Stay there for your upgrade. It’s not worth our time for you to come here and start over.
