Meet the Chiefs and hiring process
Just wanted to share my experience for those looking to interview. Here’s how it’s gone for me so far and what I’ve been told to expect. YMMV…
To start I have ~6000TT, 1000 121, 300 TPIC, and a fair amount of leadership, volunteer leadership experience.
Applied in February. I also had two Spirit buddies send my resume and recommendations to Sandi. My status has been “under review” ever since. I finally sent an email, at the suggestion of CLEtoIAH (thanks bro), to [email protected]. 4 hours later I had an invite.
At the meet&greet in LAS they open a door, and you walk into a room with 6 interviewers, 1 to a table. It’s a bit awkward. I was first in and quickly assessed, picking a guy that seemed like I could connect with. I got lucky…we had common experiences in our background, so we spent a lot of time talking about that and mutual acquaintances while he scanned my resume. He asked me a few straight forward questions, if any of my volunteer work would cause conflicts with my work schedule, where I’d commute to, how I became interested in the job, any checkride failures, etc. He then gave me the opportunity to ask questions (advice - ask questions that demonstrate you want to connect with the person on the other side of the table). Last question from me was, “what can I expect from here?” Here’s what I was told:
-they’ll review the notes and make calls to those they are interested in proceeding with in the next week to set up a video interview.
-after the video interview you’ll have an on-site interview/logbook/paperwork review within 2 weeks.
-if that goes well expect to be in class 2-4 weeks after that.
-initial training footprint is 2 months in Ft. Lauderdale (I’ve been told to expect to just stay there for the duration).
Hope this helps, this was my experience and I’m sure it has been different for others. Good luck!
