The "Debbie Downers" thing gets old .

I love the "Im staying...but IF I was looking, I would go to a legacy" bit. I remember CAs telling me that when I was hired almost a decade ago. And here I am, glad I did not leave. We have also been saying "we have hired our last Captain" for about a decade as well, and yet guys are still upgrading.

No Debbie downer here, just simple math. If we were retiring a consistent number every year my opinion would be different.

we are also exponentially growing and there’s nothing to say we’ll suddenly stop when we hit 300 planes either.

I think what he’s implying is growth is not guaranteed. Retirements are.

Thats what everyone thought when retirement was 60.

I dont know why everyone doesnt think 67, 70 or higher wont be possible to help with the pilot shortage. Must be that tough mental acuity test we get for our medicals....

The older the POTUSs get the more difficult it is to enforce a 65 year old limit I suppose…

Nothing is guaranteed. Airlines could down size with those retirements too. Especially with the cost of labor about to go up.

Or ‘offshore’ their widebody flying through Joint ventures.

According to research from global management consulting firm LEK, JVs made up only 5 per cent of global long-haul airline traffic a decade ago, yet by the end of 2016 it was 25 per cent. In its report Reaching New Heights Together in 2017: How Airlines Can Maximise the Value of Joint Ventures it states: “We believe that deeper integration between JV partners of all sizes is inevitable, and that ‘virtual mergers’ will become increasingly popular. By 2021, 35 per cent of all global long-haul traffic could be part of an immunised joint venture.” Some experts believe it could reach 50 per cent. Whatever happens, consolidation will continue.

Would extending the age really help anyone at the bottom? Yeah it will legally allow another couple years of income (if you make it to that age) but won’t it just plug up movement?
