They need to outwardly agree with what the “smart people” are saying so that they can prove themselves to be smart to you, and more importantly to their own ego.

They cannot shrug it off. They need to have their beliefs and decisions go beyond tolerance, beyond acceptance. They need to have their thoughts and decisions validated by everyone around them. I would say such a simplistic world view would be unbecoming of a pilot, especially a professional pilot. A mode of thinking not conducive to good judgment... but then a again the earliest group of pilots that thought in these terms comprised a whole luftwaffe!

It’s not about ego...I jumped into this thread because of someone wants to tout one incorrect statistic as if it’s gospel. And the last thing we need is more misinformation spread while we finally have a clear way out. I’m tired of hearing about acquaintances, friends and family ending up bed ridden or hospitalized with covid. Way back in the day they kept saying “it’s not even worse than the flu”...well guess what I never knew ANYONE laid up this bad with the flu. It’s just at every corner in this pandemic there’s some BS reason to not play nicely and be a part of the solution.
Sure I’m going to lean on experts...were not diagnosing a rattle in my car and thinking the mechanic is trying to rip me off.

But to say that experience = intelligence is a pretty big false equivalence, one that makes your frustration with how low the actual death rate from the virus (controlling for co-morbidities) actually is make sense... in a way... I guess.
And with this collectivist “we” talk; there is nothing more “we” can do that “we” haven’t been doing for more than a year now. It’s on the individual to do what’s best for them. It’s no one else’s responsibility to keep you from getting sick, not “we” just you. If you had a real vaccine you shouldn’t care, right?
