Is it cheaper than paying them $100k in year one? If so then they’re pleased to do it.

Less than a year, of course not, did not say that. That is why the market dictates everything. They know exactly how long it takes to recoup training costs, and how much it costs them once FOs start moving up the pay scale, costing them more $$ every year. CAs aren't leaving in numbers to make a dent, and when one does, there is an FO happy to take the spot and allows management to "gloat" about our "fast" upgrades. So I stand by what I said, "a few years," essentially 2-3 years; this is long enough to recoup training costs and generate revenue off the pilot while they are at the cheap end of the pay scale.

I also dont think training costs are as expensive as we assume: No healthcare for a duration, laughable new hire pay, no LTD premiums (its actually expensive for the company,) no vacation, no uniform, etc. So yeah, you got a three grand in hotel costs, $2k in wages, instructors (until they get to IOE where they are flying revenue) and sims which I believe we have a financial stake in as well for most sims.

2 reserve trips to prevent a cancelation pays for that new hire training.

.
I agree. YET ANOTHER REASON we ought to be pushing for industry standard first year pay. Leaving first year lagging the industry wasn’t just unfair to the new guys, it ultimately keeps a cheap labor pool churn going that takes leverage away from the rest of the pilot group. Besides just being the right thing to do, of course.

How many are actually leaving in the first year? I have always kept my apps up to date and check all the required boxes and haven’t had any invites. I just find it comical when people are like just go to *insert airline*! It’s like the AA pilots when you’re riding the jumpseat. “Got your app in? We’re hiring!” Like no sh*t? What a novel idea! As for now I’m fighting with the pilots here at Spirit and soon Frontier. I drive to work and get to spend a lot more time with my wife and kids. I’d love to make this my final destination.

Have you had your apps professionally reviewed? Correcting some small mistakes seemed to be all it took.

Did the union cause FOs to leave because of the pay rates, no.

75% aprox of the pilot group voted for that

Want better pay rates? Do does 3000 Spirit pilots and 1800 Frontier pilots. There is a process. If the company wants to pay more in the meantime, there is a process. The Union didn’t paint anyone into a corner, 75% of pilots said “yup, good to me.”

You have been here a minute and that same Union is the same one that passed the LOA that allowed you to stay on property instead of collecting an unemployment check.

So if you don’t like my response, so be it. I’ll see you at the picketing events.
Sorry no pun intended, but Frontier has 1685 pilots as of today February 24th at 1600. 👍🏼
Falling…….

I also agree. Considering last time I heard you could purchase a 320/737 type for well under 10k I would think that training costs are covered pretty quickly. Maybe a month or two at most with our super low first year rates.
