why the last Lec rep left for UPS not too long ago. Guess they know more then us line pilots do regarding the direction of this place.

Or perhaps he left for UPS because he will make a few million dollars more (at least) in his career.

The reps have to deal everyday with the garbage that Spirit is so great at throwing at us, along with continued empty promises for improving things. It gets old from a line pilots perspective, imagine it from theirs. This place is a revolving door, even for pilots now. Even a chief is bailing on that role. I never thought about leaving until recently, got an offer from one of the big boys with no recs and within weeks of applying. It’s crazy out there.

I think if we’re being honest you have to be blind to not see the direction this place is going. Higher ups hold the power to curb it, but guarantee we haven’t even seen the tip of how bad it’ll get. They’ll think they can fight it and when it’s too late they’ll probably unsuccessfully attempt to fix it.

DFW based pilots leaving Spirit for AA, have fun. I don’t think the grass is that much greener on that side of the terminal.

The base chief is going to the line because he is probably tired of having to do sick call follow ups and wouldn’t mine being a pilot again. A base chief pilot leaving a management role isn’t some earth shattering event; they make less than what they can on the line, don’t have to stay in that dungeon office any longer, no dealing with some knuckle head pilots who seem to not get how to play nice, etc. I’m surprised he stayed so long in that role, and hope his replacement is equally as enjoyable to deal with as he was.

I’m sure AA has their issues too, but if you don’t have much invested here how could you not explore that option if DFW or any other base we share with a legacy?

I think AA is one mild economic slowdown or non transitory spate of inflation away from Chapter 11 and furloughs. The regionals are breaking up and the three wholly owned contributed nearly 25% of the AAL revenue. The idea that they will be able to go deeper into debt to buy new NBs to take over that regional flying, hire pilots into mainline to staff them, while paying down their existing debt seems wildly optimistic. I don’t wish hard times on anyone, but I’d much rather be facing NK managements challenges which are at least within their span of control than those of AA. It’s not going to take a black swan event to get AA in trouble. Even a swan that’s just got a little gray around the down could do it.

I would never want the chief pilot role. More than likely he’s tired of having to play crew scheduling, hotel connections, babysitter, etc. I was moreso insinuating it’s a sign of the times at what a dumpster fire we have become lately..I know we aren’t the only ones. I’ve never heard of anyone being called about a sick call since we were negotiating. Also, they most certainly make more than the line pilots. They got a big bump when we got c2018.

It’s the idea that whatever issues we have here, don’t exist at AA. If I were a first or second year FO, sure, I would be looking as well. Guys just need to go into this with eyes open and not all that glitters is gold.
As someone said once “if you’re miserable at your current airline, you’ll likely be miserable at your next airline.”
