I'm a new regional FO just barely off IOE, and I have accepted a job offer from Spirit. Is it really worth it to come over and take a 30-40k pay cut to come fly for spirit? Additionally I would be giving up living in base to being a commuter at spirit. I am new to the 121 world, so I still do not have enough experience to be able to properly judge the differences between a regional and a place like spirit.

If you’re not willing to move, and there is another major airline that has a base where you live, then I would stay at your regional and wait to get hired by that major.

Other things to consider that have been said time and time again, where do you want to be when the economy takes a dump? What would make you more marketable to your career goal, an additional type or 121 TPIC? Can you afford the 90 days of dog crap training pay at this place?

In that case, the only good reason I could see to come here is if you truly want to be a part of Spirit or whatever we end up becoming. Wouldn’t recommend taking the pay cut and give up living in base if your goal is a legacy.

Only good reasons to come to NK right now is if you aren’t getting many hours of flying or if your regional is in the process of folding. If you can block 70 a month for more money at your regional you’ll sure upgrade quicker there than here. On the other hand, if you are stuck on deep reserve flying 30 hours a month while seeing the number of CAs on the seniority list decline monthly and you already have more FOs than CAs, the trade off MIGHT be worth it.
Sort of depends too on if the current wife is meant to be permanent or a temp, but that’s a different discussion.

My opinion is different: The regionals suck. I came from one of the "good" ones and Spirit is still definitely better. Once you're on second year pay there's no comparison. The flying, schedules, and airplane alone are so much better. Flying an A320 between major cities is so much better than flying a junk E145 to Peoria. I'm actually realizing that I wasn't truly happy during my regional years. I'm on 4th year pay and make over $100k working a leisurely schedule, generally flying on the days I want and to the destinations I like (west coast). I *might* hold captain on the bid that closes tomorrow. We also have the jetBlue merger to look forward to (which I think will be a big improvement over the current state of affairs).
As for the idea of staying at a regional until a legacy calls, I think that's now a farce. I recently interviewed at my choice legacy. In my interview group of 8, there were ZERO regional pilots. Not one. Surprisingly there was only 1 military. Everyone was ULCC, ACMI, or 135. Another Spirit pilot I spoke to recently interviewed at a different legacy. 20 in his group. Only 5 were regional, all check airman. Not a single one got an offer. All the rest were hired (10 military, 5 other). The legacies don't want to hire from the regionals. It hurts their ability to fly the RJs. They want to hire from places like Spirit. So if you did want to go to a legacy, going to Spirit and getting the A320 type is possibly the best pathway.
I'm actually still unsure if I'll take the legacy offer or just stay and enjoy being (eventually) jetBlue. I live local to NYC and when the integration is done I should be able to hold JFK captain on any plane.
