Attrition

Obviously compared to UAL. That would be $400. But even apples to apples: 2004 AS was 197. Corrected for inflation that is $311, new rates are still $5 lower. So, maybe the rates aren't cr@p, They aren't anything special.

This is straight off of the Negotiations Q&A that the NC put out 1 month ago. Literally the very first question asked and answered. It’s amazing how uniformed some on here are, these are not just my thoughts, I do however understand the time constraints here. Don’t shoot the messenger.
FOCUSED BARGAINING
Why are we doing focused negotiations on limited important issues to the pilot group instead of a full Section 6 where we fix everything?
The short answer is time. We don’t have the two to three years that a comprehensive Section 6 would take before we need to negotiate a TPA and a JCBA. What we do have are multiple opportunities in the next two years to initiate bargaining for contract improvements. These focused negotiations are the first step of a multi-step process. At the conclusion of those efforts, having bargained a comprehensive JCBA or, should the merger fail regulatory approval, a comprehensive CBA as a stand-alone carrier, we aim to have in place a new agreement that will position us as a career destination carrier. These focused negotiations will pay our pilots while we negotiate the TPA and JCBA and provide a backstop in the event the merger isn’t approved that immediately puts us back at the negotiating table to bargain for comprehensive improvements.

TL/DR:"If we don't get a TA by 12/9, we suggest leaving, because we don't have any more meetings planned afterwards."
The NC is obviously prepared to not accept a substandard deal, and willing to drag it out to force the companies hand.

Five dollars lower than the old contract rate when inflation is factored in. Sounds like they are working for less than they used to. I almost guarantee we will be as well. Shucks.

Don’t know how many times the NC has to say that Alaska was a multi year negotiation, a full section 6, covering every section and that this process for NK is exactly NOT that.
When/IF we get a TA, you can vote how you see, but go into this with the reality knowing that they are NOT going for those “crap” AK rates, as some have called them.
This negotiation is 100% to hold us over until the JCBA process OR a failed merger which would open section 6 for a comprehensive CBA.
Like it or not, vote how you want when/if the time comes, but at least go into this in the position of reality, it will help IF/When we get a deal.

Alaska was a multi year negotiation during a pandemic and negotiating a bunch of legal language that gets picket apart by both sides for months. We are negotiating pay. That isn’t something that takes multiple years. It’s yes or no. Alaska is a floor for the industry in negotiations. Wanna be the laughing stock that rides coat tails and never leads? They can catalog my no right now. Pay only doesn’t take multiple years no matter what anyone says. They send something crazy and they can watch the planes come in while pilots walk out the door.

Sad but true. We will likely end up with 2018 JetBlue numbers, then JetBlue and Delta and everyone else will come out with their new TAs and blow us out of the water, and we’ll be stuck until a JCBA with numbers from 2018. Lagging the industry.
