Well, after stalling for years, I’m not surprised they moved him aside when we went to mediated talks, as he never showed up prepared, and could never make a yes/no decision.

It really is. When you hire a bunch of guys that didn’t go to college or flew in another country for half the pay you get lowered expectations. “I’m here for QOL” I hear all the time. What QOL exactly? It’s just something their buddy from crap cargo or foreign airline xyz told them so they repeat it. Many have no idea what the actual market is like these days. Half don’t even know our own contract let alone know what’s in other contracts.

You forget that some of us did real time. 15+ years in an RJ working for a feeder makes almost any operation that’s not a regional seem like it’s the best thing around. It’s all about perspective. We are fewer and fewer no a days. My apologies for ruinin your “the man’s got me down” party.

This is pretty much what comes out of the back end of a bull. I know people trying mightily to get out that ended up 20 year captains and check airmen who could not move. Nothing wrong with them. Now they can move.

When I was attending at least a job fair a month and trying to get tickets the second they opened and standing in day long lines for a chance to talk to just one person from airlines that were only starting to hire, I was flying w guys saying that was stupid and it wasn’t worth it. Really they just didn’t want to put in the work. Same guys settling that spirit is “better than my regional”

Perhaps trying hard to get out to only the legacy of their choice in their regional domicile. Trying really hard to for 15-20 years to leave a regional would’ve resulted in leaving for somewhere most likely between 2012 and 2016 at the latest and would’ve been at least the second time someone with that kind of tenure had a decent opportunity to get out. If they stuck around they weren’t trying hard or got comfortable with their place in life.

I remember the early 2000’s were filled with furloughs and bankruptcies and 20+ year upgrades at the legacies. Pay was half what it is now. Plenty of guys and girls furloughed 2 times from United were spending their third tour starting back at the bottom of SkyWest seniority list. Hiring was practically non existent for 10 years. And then once the hiring started you had a 10s of thousands of regional captains jockeying for a lot less jobs than are available now. Times have changed for the better. But people who spent 15 years at their regional weren’t passing up any legacy, fedex, ups, or southwest job in any base. My roommate had to interview 3 times for Hawaiian in 2012. It was a 3 step interview process, 3 separate occasions over maybe a few months. He had multiple internal recommendations from family member who were pilots with Hawaiian. He finally got the job, but their were 1000’s of pilots lining up to work for $38 dollars an hour and most of them were turned down. 15 years at a regional is understandable.
All I’m saying is we need to lose the “better than my regional” attitude and the beat down attitude of “well I spent 15 years at xyz and got beat down so I’m thankful for the scraps spirit gives me”.
Spirit wants you to think you should take less for some QOL myth. They want you to think if you got hired without a college degree that you wouldn’t have been hired at a legacy and should be happy to be here. They want you to think if you spent an eternity at a regional or some third rate cargo outfit that you should be thankful for whatever they want to offer and anything more would be greedy bc you know it could be worse.
This JCBA should and will be legacy+. We are not less than no matter what our backgrounds are and they need this contract!
