I finally get to live in base starting in November and my wife had to drop to part time to be more available for my kids. She works when I’m home and is off when I’m gone. Not the best life to live because I commuted for 6 years. She’s resilient and self sufficient. That was when I married her all those years ago I was like I need someone who can handle being alone for 5 days or months on end when I’m in training or whatever. I’m hoping now I can sit reserve in base I’ll be able to have a lot more nights at home and or no more 2 am wake ups to fly to a base and then not get used and sit in a crashpad like adult summer camp.

That’s exactly what we did when I got hired at spirit and lived in the base. After the first year she quit for good and its great. Once you get a little seniority on rsv and can get off the more utilized RAPs you’ll look at this job through completely different eyes. Congratulations.

Reserve in base sure beats commuting to reserve. I get flown on reserve a lot but half of it is day trips. I get probably 5-7 more nights a month at home than I’d have commuting

Just had a guy DH from the sim for landings. Wasn’t on leave for anything. Had not flown in 3 mo on rsv. If you’re working a lot on rsv you’re either very junior or bidding the wrong RAP or working every weekend. That or a combination of those together

You must not be in one of our Florida bases then. Since June I've only had two days where I sat at home and didn't get used, and I'm in the middle of the pack. It be busy, and honestly I don't mind as I'm over guarantee every month right now.

Also it is heavily base dependent as well
