Jumpseat Etiquette
#21
I’ve commuted half my career and never had a problem. I always stop
up and say hi. When a jumpseater comes up for a ride, I don’t expect the whole kiss the ring spiel. We are all just trying to goto work or go home and see our families. If you expect your own teammates to pull out all the documents just to sit in back and have a nice conversation with you then so be it. You do you. Occupying the actual jumpseat is a different animal and I will ask to see their stuff...

So let me ask this, if I’m on an 8 month EIL and I’m not required to have a current medical or be a current qualified pilot, your are telling me that I’m still am an ACM and you want me to show you my current medical (which I don’t have)?
or some other leave such as FMLA

So yes, I am telling you that. But it’s not ME telling you that, it’s the System Chief Pilot telling you that, seeing that he’s the designated manual administrator and all.

I liked it when I jumpseated on AA 3 weeks ago and asked for a ride , and CA said ‘yeah I guess we’ll allow the lowest paid pilot in the industry on board’ ha. I was so stunned I chuckled and kept moving. I took solace in knowing he works for a dumpster fire . And I’m happy, something he may have never experienced. Sometimes the high road is the best path.

If I list CASS, and get a cabin seat, and I take my seat in the back, can I pop a cold one and put a pullover on?

Who cares? If he wants to see the docs and a quick convo, who are you, me or anyone else to say anything about it? It’s the f-ing RULE for gosh sakes, why belittle him for asking others to follow them?

I sat for 2 hours thinking of things I wish I had said. And on certain days maybe I would have . But being at NK you have to be used to hearing flak. I’ve heard it all .. it just makes me even more proud of being here. Means we’ll get the last laugh .. I wouldn’t trade with him for anything .. and that makes me smile

Jumpseat Etiquette
Instead of bickering about it, it should be changed. If there’s a seat in the back, whether you’re listed as a jumpseater or not, they should just give you a seat. They shouldn’t even cass you or make you fill out the form. Save trees, time, and money by not having to cass everyone just for them to sit in back.

As a captain myself, I prefer non-jumpseaters don't stop up front. Talking to half a dozen jumpseaters is enough. I don't need to speak to every nonrevver, deadheader, and paid passenger who happen to also be a pilot as well.

No offense, but that's your personal choice. I have done years of commuting. I chose not to stop up front when nonrevving or deadheading. No one should be wondering anything. If I stop up front with jumpseat paperwork, then of course I am jumpseating. If I don't stop up front, you need not wonder what I am doing or be confused. To approach someone who didn't stop up and ask them about whether or not they're jumpseating is rude and unnecessary. They could even be fully paid passengers on their own dime, just traveling in uniform.
