IIRC, there was a fed in back. The jumpseater stuck his head in the cockpit, said hi, and went to the back without a doc check by the Captain. Apparently the fed watched the interaction and asked to see the jumpseater’s docs. When he couldn’t produce them, the Captain was queried as to why he didn’t check them. This is the scenario as best as I recollect. If I messed up a detail, my apologies. But, I think this was the gist of it.

Talk about some terrible luck and timing. But crazy to think about.

Terrible luck for sure. But it led to a memo reminding us that all Cass approved Jumpseaters, regardless of where they actually sit, fall under the same rules.

Look fellas, it’s very simple. If you’re jumpseating on a Spirit aircraft, regardless of where you are seated, whether you’re NK or OAL; the Captain is REQUIRED per company policy to verify credentials. Which includes ID, license AND medical certificate.
Personally I’m not going to jeopardize my career because you feel offended that I’m asking for your credentials. Not sorry.

I’m in violent agreement with you.

100% in agreement. And I think most of us have been in agreement on this from the start and hopefully for those who felt it was an "ego thing" now get that its very much a "career CYA thing"...like 90% of what we do.

I would agree with this as well. It is pretty standard across the industry, however the way a couple of the early posts worded some things caused a momentary bit of confusion.

Does anyone else see the irony in this thread? The OP started all this to “school” someone on jumpseat etiquette, and yet he himself got “schooled” on Spirit jumpseat policy required on his end. Based on his own account, it’s pretty clear he didn’t check the jumpseater’s credentials or he would have certainly had the time to give him the education he so desperately deserved. If he dropped his form and left, you call him back, simple as that. And then none of this would have been necessary. Ok, so bright side, maybe some readers got schooled too, some at NK and some OAL learning what’s required of NK crews, so I guess it’s not all bad.

But, flash forward 12 pages of back and forth about when it is and when it’s not required to check-in with the flight deck. At the end of the day, he checked in, the OP didn’t like the semantics of it, fair enough, but again, he didn’t follow his rules either now did he?

You got a greeting, it starts with an H, how’s 20 bucks sound?

Did it really take 12 pages and 2 weeks to determine “we should probably just follow the procedure clearly defined in the manual”? I thought my wife moved slow...

I think it took two weeks for people to figure out the difference between jumpseating vs. non-rev.
