I hope you try that strategy on the interview too.
"Well I didn't really fail, they just pulled me because I tampered with my medical. Super unfair check airman! Shouldn't have failed me for that. I think he was out to get me. He had a reputation too".

Wouldn’t tampering with a FAA medical be a federal type offense?

Actually the LCA was fine with it. He looked at it and gave it back and said let’s go. We got an acars to RTG when we were #3 for T/O. So whoever he sent the info to apparently had an issue. And the FAA representative I spoke to the next day didn’t really see an issue either since I had both half’s.
Not one LCA I have met knew you could bust for that. But apparently on the APC forums it’s different lol
It wasn’t until a few months later and another 30 or 40 people getting pulled off the line for the same reason that the airline finally put a bulletin out telling everyone to make sure it’s folded and not cut.
Hell my internal rec over at spirit got pulled off a line check too for an Ipad not running the correct iOS version, some people consider that an issue too but he told me the interview team at spirit laughed when he explained it….so there’s that.

Well it’s crj2017’s “I didn’t do it!” medical day. Again.

still in all that long line of normalizing, justifying and making excuses… not once did you say

yeah I messed up.

yeah I learned from it.

Anyone had experience with this?
If you’re asking whether talent acquisition does an auto sort by who has checkride failures (or other derogatory marks) and prioritizes calls to the squeaky clean first, who knows. One guy has 15 years and dozens of events, another guy has 3 years and only a handful.

It all comes out in the background check either way.

The more important thing is how you handle the question in a phone or live interview. It may be an outlier, but the person on the other side of the table doesn’t want to hear how you are a special little snowflake that was the victim of a rogue LCA or caught up in a cut vs fold scandal.

Be honest, everyone has a bad day in the box. I thought I was prepared, but reflecting back on it I could have been better prepared. It stung a bit, but I learned a few things. A good pilot is compelled to evaluate what’s happened, so he can apply what he’s learned. That spin was hell, it would have shook me up. Up there we gotta push it, that’s our j-….

Wait, what were we talking about about again?

I apologize for that. I thought I had said that months earlier but I may not have.
I did mess up as I was not in compliance with the FOM. My application explanation states that verbatim as well.
I also took the time to contact several co workers and tell them if your medical is cut it’s not valid and you will bust for it. Get it fixed before you end up like me. I can think of 2 people off the top of my head who needed new medicals.
I learned greatly. It sure as hell won’t happen again. Do I take extra caution with just about everything I do now? Absolutely!

Yet, do I think it should make me unhireable? No I don’t.

Again, sorry for coming off a certain way. It’s just I know how important it is to get out of regionals real soon if there is to be any long term seniority down the road. Frustrations mount and can get overwhelming at times.

This whole situation sounds like the perfect excuse to go buy a yellow suit, rent a yellow car, and go to one of the big job fairs and head straight to the Spirit booth. Show them you want them and they might reciprocate.

Its the plan. I inquired about the DfW event that happened this month but was full. They just told me to follow LinkedIn for more updates regarding future events.
