Do you happen to know what experience he had prior to getting hired?

No, but I do feel that I got hired at such low time (<4000TT, <1000 TPIC) and with no recs because I had a STEM Masters Degree. You may get hired without one but your other stuff has to stand out more.

I got hired without a degree. I had 8800 TT 3000 121 PIC from a regional. Also had some volunteer work on the resume, maybe that helped. I had 1 internal from an FO thats it. I dont think they cared. As long as you are qualified, I think they just want to make sure you aren't a douche. We neeeed bodies in those seats! 48 a month now.

Wasn’t long ago they were concerned a degree meant you were a “flight risk” for a Legacy

That is true... I personally believe a degree will hurt you going forward because UAL and DAL are ramping up the hiring to 100 a month or so. Most people have a degree, but for the guys like myself that don't, I think its a positive because I wont be leaving for a Legacy. I will have 25yrs at Spirit now and im happy about it. Longhaul aint my thing! LOL

I’ve been told by many currently at Spirit that what you have said is 100% accurate. NOT having a four year degree will actually help you here. I have no degree, my application has been in with 2 internal captain recs since 5/11/21. I’m currently doing long haul international corporate which is killing me! Hoping to hear from Spirit soon as I’ll have a 28 year career there.
