I don’t disparage anyone I fly with for being young and inexperienced. If they bring the right attitude I’m happy to share what I know, and what I’ve learned from mistakes. I don’t disparage them for leveraging this job for one at a legacy.
But this is the new reality. In years past if you ever did get that life changing phone call for a legacy (usually it was “a”, not multiple) then you had better have your act together. The PIC and competitive minimums were there so that it would be unusual to get candidates who were still getting to grips with things like all weather ops, energy management, basic RT, and why listening to tiktok videos at full blast during boarding may not be the most professional look.
Delta’s training may be great, but historically it’s been aligned to funnel experienced aviators into the big D world. It will be interesting to see how it adjusts to coping with a high volume flood of less and less seasoned pilots.
Meanwhile that kid probably will upgrade to 320 captain after six months, and pilots here will talk about how we aren’t Delta pilots and can’t ever expect Delta rates while the dilution of the years/hours of experience on legacy narrow body fleets continues.

And this is the moment I took a mental snapshot of.

Figure an average of $700-$800 a pay period after taxes for the first 90 days. If TA is approved, just a little bit better than that.

Wouldn't surprise me. The quality of new hires hitting the line has solidly decreased in recent months based on what I've seen as a CA.
