true but it seems like it would be cheaper to have someone stay a year and then move on so they can recycle to the lower longevity. Baldanza always talked about juniority

Baldanza's "treat the customer like trash, they will come back" had us headed down the wrong path. Thankfully Vanilla Bob stopped the antics of 1 system spare, MILF fares, 18 hour delays, etc...This company is much better off post Baldanza..probably the reason he was told to....er, "resigned"

For the poolies that just got emailed for moving forward, what was the 20 minute video call about? Just got the email and wondering how to prep. Would very much appreciate a pm if not appropriate for the masses.

Was just basically making sure you haven’t failed a checkride or anything had changed since your interview.

It’s whatever they want it to be. Currently SF seems to want people who aren’t going to leave in 2 years or as soon as a legacy calls. So they’re trying to hire people they think want to be here. Some may say it’s cheaper to have a revolving door, like the regionals, because you always have a relatively junior seniority list. But the constant training/hiring churn probably costs money as well. There’s also probably a cost associated with people treating their job as a stepping stone and not really caring or taking any ownership in their airline.

I honestly don’t understand how this place is still considered a stepping stone by some. I think this last year has proven the value of this company’s business model. There are obviously no guarantees in this profession, and the days of going to a legacy thinking you’ll retire as a widebody captain are over, IMO.

* Your mileage may vary. Results dependent upon hire age and poor decisions made earlier in your career. Caveat emptor.

FWIW I deleted my AirlineApps about a month after hitting the line here. Thought maaaaybe it would be a stepping stone when I interviewed, but nope, I want to retire here. Life is too good wouldn’t want to be anywhere else
