I think the union did an admirable job. I have some friends at delta that really wish they had this. Many many guys will be all over the 3 month
leave. That will ensure that all the holidays will be off. I can only see senior captains or guys with spouses with good income taking the 6 months but not many.
and I doubt many at all will take the 8 months. 4 days is a short time to decide to take off 8 months and figure out whah to do in that time . Furloughs will
still happen but If this keeps a few more guys on property I think it’s a win/win. I know my friends in corporate America are shocked we get something like this . It’s a good deal .

I’d take all of the above. It’s free money, every man’s dream. Getting paid to do absolutely nothing. And the pay ain’t bad either. Could even grab a side job for fun

Cruising over to your board from the other ULCC. Congrats to you and your MEC for hammering out what looks like a pretty good deal. I hope many pilots are happy, the Company gets their savings, and it all works out where there are no furloughs. Looks like a win-win from here.

I think you’ll see a lot of guys take the 8 month. I’m still on first year pay and I’m bidding the 8 month. Even when it switches to second year pay, 50 hours is more than min guarantee on first year pay, so I get a pay raise and get 8 months off??? Heck yes. Sign me up. And if I don’t take the EIL, I stand a chance of losing my base and commuting to reserve. I’d rather take the EIL.

I personally think that a lot of people will take the EIL but you’re right, that is a lot to think about. I personally plan on taking it if I can but by the time I came back to the line it would have been a total of 14 months without operating a single flight. That’s kind of a sobering thought.

Many have their lifestyle set up to live on much less than guarantee. Many don’t too. With school going full virtual a lot of places being off of work may be a necessity. Start a business, rent an RV and see all the national parks. Move to Costa Rica for 8 mo. It’s a great opportunity for many.

Not Spirit, but I've been sitting around at 55 hours for over a month now and it's friggin' amazing. Got a daughter due any day now so it's even more perfect. Not senior enough to get our 6 month deal (I'll keep trying!), but I'm gonna try stringing as many 3 months leaves together as they'll let me.

Congrats to your union for putting this together! The guys that do it will love it, and obviously the fewer that get furloughed as a result the better.

The last question in the Q/A the union put out concerns me about junior guys still getting furloughed even though bidding an EIL.

Q: What happens to a pilot on an EIL if they are subsequently furloughed?
A: Active pilots on an EIL that are furloughed during the EIL period will immediately move from EIL to furloughed status on the effective date of the furlough in accordance with Section 23 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

The EIL’s are designed to be taken by the senior pilots to prevent junior pilots from being furloughed. If a junior pilot is able to hold an EIL it defeats the purpose.
So yes, if a junior pilot is awarded an EIL they are still subject to furlough.
Participation by senior pilots in the EIL program will be encouraged by the union and management during the town hall meeting on Monday.

Not sure why you quoted me, since I didn’t say anything about what happens when you get furloughed on a EIL, but 👍
