Common sense and treating your coworkers like human beings really does go a long way. We've all been dehumanized enough as it is with the mask mandates and required social distancing. I am not so much concerned about myself or others wearing the mask, but I am very much concerned with what I physically consume and my overall level of fitness.

I wear my mask while they're up there, I politely ask them to keep theirs on too, and explain this if needed. So far I haven't been called any names (to my face) but wouldn't care if they did.
What do you think happens at the grocery store? How about at a restaurant when you are seated at a table and people are walking right by you and not wearing a mask because they are leaving? I see your point, but I think that if you are so worried then you should don your crew O2 and make sure you get a tight seal against your face just to be safe...

You go to restaurants? Quite the daredevil!

In all seriousness though, absolutely no one knows which strand of this virus does what, so saying you’ll “just fight it off” is very naive. Doctors and researchers are also not sure yet what long lasting damage the virus does.
To all anti-maskers who think “rona” is nothing but the sniffles, do everyone else a favor and just follow workplace safety rules. We do it with everything else. No big deal.

Don't forget your goggles!

I'm not anti mask, I'm just perplexed by the lack of common sense.

do people not wear masks where you live?Where I live if you aren’t outside recreating or away from people it’s mask on.

either way I think the entire world should be open as normal including schools. Vigilant hygiene and mask where appropriate is the only thing we can do. An FA talking right over my shoulder is an example of “where appropriate”.

Id say a single younger FA is a at much higher odds to being an asymptomatic spreader than a family man that’s home at night. This is very general but I’m playing the odds.

anyway this wasn’t meant to be a mask debate. Just saying the furloughs are a ways out and we have a lot of time left on the clock. Let’s just do all we can do to make sure our customers are getting a great experience so they tell their friends and start booking those fall and holiday tickets before October.

We may not know all of the long term effects of this and our future medicals may very well be at risk.

I am not anti-mask. I'm just saying, if you're that worried over the FAs then why sit there with a piece of cloth over your face when you can use the crew oxygen mask which has goggles and also the added benefit of forming a tight seal. It's common sense...you wouldn't roll up to a street race in a ford pinto when you've got a brand new ZL1 sitting in the garage.

With regard to fighting off the virus, nobody is saying to haphazardly act like a moron with a complete and total disregard for general health and safety. But it is important to realize that even with the mask mandate and all of these rules you could very likely still catch the virus (happened to me). At that point it's up to your immune system to sort things out, and according to my doctor there are things that you can do to greatly optimize that situation.

None of that is necessarily wrong, but it’s quantity not quality. The social distancing is to minimize the chances of inhaling the virus via airborne saliva, but really it’s about not being in a poorly ventilated, enclosed space with numerous people for extended periods. Which is the exact opposite of a single FA on the flight deck for 3 minutes.

If you’re wearing a mask anytime the cabin crew is up front, but not when the other pilot is, or are doing normal things like shopping at any number of stores then protecting yourself from that FA is pretty pointless. It’s pretty pointless when you consider just walking through an airport, using a public restroom, riding in a sedan or staying in a hotel.

It's ok because at the rate we're going none of us will have jobs. No job, no need for a medical.

Mass hysteria.
