Face masks are just another dumb measure just like hand sanitizer that turned out to be wrong because it isn’t a virus that you can get from surfaces very easily. Face masks only help if it’s a N95 mask and it is fitted to your face properly. CDC recommends people make and use masks from home. I’m guessing the micron level protection of your old sheets, underwear or bra are about as effective as a condom that is expired and has a .40 caliber hole in it. There is no more common sense and people can’t or are not allowed to decide what is best for them. It’s just asinine.
what a joke this post is. That’s like saying using an umbrella to walk through the rain is “just another dumb ineffective measure” because your shoes and legs might still get wet. If you don’t think that people walking around with a mask over their face/mouth that catches a massive percentage of their exhaled spit, while effectively discouraging/preventing them from touching their face, Does nothing to slow the spread of a respiratory virus, maybe you should go back to grade school and learn some common sense. I can guarantee you’d want a mask on your (and their) face if you were in an elevator with a covid19 positive individual.
Or perhaps you’ve just decided wearing a
Mask is “liberal” and “everything libs do is bad” so you feel the need to trash talk people wearing masks in an attempt to slow the spread of a virus that is threatening your own career. God forbid you wear a mask for a couple months when you walk around Walmart so we can save someone’s grandma and get these virus numbers down so people start to fly again. No one is trying to steal your rights, we just don’t want you and 50M other people walking around potentially spreading a virus. What a massive inconvenience it must be

The purpose of face masks in the OR is both to prevent the passage of germs from the staffs noses and mouths into the patient's wound and to protect the surgeons mouth and nose from sprays and splashes from the patient. That could be anything. Even food particles from scarfing down lunch or in the case of one particular surgeon I used to work with..... chewing tobacco.
Face masks are also thought to make wound infections after surgery less likely.
surgical masks are not sterile and not incorporated into the sterile field.

How about a COVID party. Like kids and chicken pox. All healthy individuals have a massive party where we all cough on each other and purposely get it. Maybe a few good kisses from randos. Then lockdown for 2 weeks and the old or comprised immune people lockdown in a separate area. Then herd immunity and we can all be done with this.
Not very practical but in some ways I think let's just get this thing and get it over with.

false equivalency.

Also, my wife wonders if you’ve informed her hospital about not wearing surgical masks during sterile surgeries. Because they haven’t told her that yet.

That can’t be true. I’ve been told on APC that face masks do nothing. Are you saying they only work in the confines of an OR? 😁

I was posting to back YOU up..... in that even the dinky non sterile masks in surgery serve a purpose....I gathered that your post was sarcasm and I was lining out why even the non N95 masks are still good for some things. Maybe not for combatting a virus directly but certainly other applications (like the OR).
my goodness.

Isn't the latest working theory from scientists that immunity only lasts 6 to 8 months? Anyway, in the interest of avoiding negative PR, would the company consider firing employees failing to comply with mask policy? All it takes is a phone, a woke individual, and a slow news day to create a mess for the airline.
