DFW is on average more senior than FLL, but that doesn’t mean just because you can hold a line sooner in FLL that you will be the first pig at the trough when it comes to bids and drops. You are as likely to get stuck with holidays, Super Bowl, or just weekends in general there as a junior line holder.

Wow, thank you so much for your response, it makes a world of difference and makes me feel more confident about my decision!! This being my first 121, I was not sure what to expect for scheduling and bidding and being able to mange my own schedule (coming from corporate). For personal reasons, I normally have to be home Thursday evenings and Sunday mornings, so having heard about schedule flexibility, immediately caught my attention about NK, but just wanted to have an insight about what I can really expect once I’m able to hold a line. So basically, I really don’t mind what kind of trip pairings I get, or start/end times, as long as I have those days and times at home.
There’s 0 flexibility as a reserve, so keep that in mind. You’ll like it here.

Also note that if you bid the junior base and another economic shutdown you’ll be stuck there on reserve really wishing you were stuck on reserve in base.. I was commuting 6 years and just finally living where I work has been a blessing. I spent 7 nights out of my own bed in November.

However if you live in DFW if that’s the base you want then just get senior on reserve so you can get the days off you want and stay on reserve instead of bidding some crappy line for years.

Nope - wont work either as the guy said he needed Thursday and Sunday off. Min days of reserve blocks are 4. There is no scenario on reserve where he gets both these days off with our current min block of 4 regardless of what he waves for the whole month. One week yes - the rest of the month would be one or the other either Thursday or Sunday.

To get Thursday evenings and Sunday mornings off
you could bid to start late on Sunday. You’d finish your 4 day trip on Wednesday night late.
but your chances of getting red eyes are higher with that preference.
but relying on dropping to be able to pick up from open time in Dfw is not reliable.
usually there isn’t the open time that fits what you’ll need. Most open time in Dfw will be working over the weekends and there is competition from the line holders at other bases who live in Dfw who also pick the Dfw open time.

That schedule will be hard (if not impossible) to swing regardless of which airline you end up at, especially for a junior pilot. The schedule “cadence” here will benefit you for some of those days per month if you work your bid correctly, but certainly not all of them…

Is the company still planning on hiring 900 for 2022? Realistically, if one were to be hired today could they expect to upgrade within 5 years, or is that only if the company grows beyond the 300 TT airplane count? Has there be any internal talk on how contract negotiations may go once it begins to open up?
