Thanks guys. Just trying to budget for that first year. Is the blazer or karbon jacket mandatory? Do we have to have one of those, both?
Also, any idea what they cost?

You’ll want one or the other if it gets cold. We still have some sporting whatever they find in their closet, but that seems to be a growing minority.

I don’t have the cost off hand. Sorry.

Karbon is around $230, blazer is a little more than half of that

How would it get deducted from your paycheck if you dropped a trip?
Or if you dropped to 0?
I’ve heard responses, but just trying clarify.

Also, if you have a very important single-day event a few weeks just after you are projected to be off OE, or even during OE, would it be possible to request that day off?
Thanks!

I’m one of the bottom bidders in base, barely hold a line. Get my awful bid award, drop the entire line to zero. Spend the rest of the month off, waiting for a 200% trip or for day trips to pop up in opentime. Typically work 10-12 day trips a month and credit 70-95. Usually home 26+ Nights a month.

if you don’t want to work, you don’t have to

YMMV, but if you ask me this place is heaven on earth

Wow! That’s amazing, basically one of the main reasons I
chose NK!
May I ask where are you based and do you live in base?

Thanks!

You will receive wings and epaulets sometime during training.

No allowance for medical, only passport renewals.
Yeah, because let's not waste negotiation capital on giving new hires a uniform....

That's abnormal - but it IS possible . . . IF you live in base and are have a LOT of flexibility with days off, so, if Spirit calls for that 200% trip or that Day trip pops into open time, you can take it.

Most of us mere mortals have kid's soccer games, date nights with the wife, etc. The family doesn't seem to see "Yeah, I missed THAT one event, but I have 22 days off this month!" the same way you do. BUT . . . if you have that kind of schedule flexibility, Spirit can be a great place to work, since dropping to 0 and then waiting for something good to fall into your lap now that your schedule is WIDE OPEN to accept it is something that can be done here. And you can always say "no" if you really need the day off too. You work here as little or as much as you want . . . as long as you're a line holder, of course.

Seems the X list trips have been raining down on FOs. CAs in a senior base, not so much.

If you’re going to choose one, I’d buy the Karbon. When it gets really cold, the blazer ain’t going to cut it.

I remember my friend telling me when he got his job with a new real estate company, they gave him 3 suits, a cold weather jacket, 5 shirts, 8 pairs of socks, 8 pairs of underwear and 3 pairs of shoes. I asked him why they gave a grown man clothes? He said “because companies are supposed to buy their clothes for their professionals like they do at McDonalds”

Wait, sorry…that never happened.

Seriously? Guys now can’t afford a black pair of slacks and a few junk shirts to do their job? Our uniform provider is junk. So much junk that many guys donate our allowance to new FOs who can’t seem to find $100 to buy a few shirts and a pair of pants.

Paying for uniforms and medical, such low hanging fruit. FUPM, give me money, that’s what I want and I’ll buy my own supplies from a uniform supplier that actually makes decent stuff.
