Sheer dumb luck, I guess. I applied a year ago and have been updating periodically, radio silence. I tried emailing MTC and figured I wouldn’t fret anymore, if they call me then they call, if not then oh well. Few more weeks go by and today I got an invite. I’m assuming it’s not uncouth to say where it is since everyone else was doing it in past months? To my surprise it’s in SLC, I thought they only did it in spirit domiciles. Anyway I was pretty thrilled to get an invite and thag it’s close to me.

I just find it interesting since Spirit doesn’t even fly to SLC, they’re obviously not targeting Delta guys, and SLC has a bunch of lifers here at Skywest.
But hey if they want to build up a cohort of pilots in that west, and then build up more flying and another domicile out here, that would be great. PHX metro area won’t stop growing and for my own selfish reasons I wish NK had a base here. I’m still surprised LAX isn’t a base either. SLC would be a weird choice but DL doesn’t have any real competition. All pipe dreams I suppose.
Nice. That’s what the regionals had to do a while back, I even saw big schools like Hillsboro go around back in the day to recruit instructors. Flying to all the big cities to lure in the 141 college graduates to come to Oregon. If staffing is this big of an issue, I can see why they’d go back to opening up these hiring events. Especially since MTCs sound like they’re really brief one-on-one meetings, it’s not really practical to fly all the way out to say FLL for a lot of people.

I wouldn’t read too much into the MTC location. While you’re correct that holding the meet & greets in more convenient locations for left coast pilots probably helps… the reality of it is probably something more like a couple of the chiefs wanted to tack on a few ski days to the end of the trip.

Try “booking” a flight on spirit.com in late May or so to SLC… the results may surprise you
