World's First Ultra Low-Cost Airline Codeshare Agreement Announced Between Two Brands: U.S.-Based Frontier Airlines and Mexico's Volaris

WORLD’S FIRST ULTRA LOW-COST AIRLINE CODESHARE AGREEMENT ANNOUNCED BETWEEN TWO BRANDS: U.S.-BASED FRONTIER AIRLINES AND MEXICO’S VOLARIS

DENVER – JAN. 16 – Ultra-low cost carriers (ULCCs) Frontier and Volaris announce a new codeshare agreement which will provide millions of people access to affordable fares between the U.S. and Mexico. This first-ever codeshare agreement between uniquely branded ULCCs will allow both carriers to sell tickets and connecting itineraries on the airlines’ combined networks.

“This agreement will allow us to expand upon our mission to deliver low fares and enable more people to fly,” said Barry Biffle, President and Chief Executive Officer of Frontier Airlines. “Many customers traveling between the U.S. and Mexico are forced to pay high fares to fly, and this agreement will provide lower fares to a vast majority of the U.S. and Mexico population. As the leading ultra-low-cost carrier in Mexico, Volaris is an ideal partner with which to align and we look forward to working together to deliver low fares to millions of people.”

Subject to regulatory approval by authorities in the United States and Mexico, the codeshare routes will be available for purchase this Spring. This agreement will allow Frontier to place and sell tickets with its code (F9) on Volaris operated flights and for Volaris to place its code (Y4) on Frontier operated flights. Once the codeshare is in place passengers will enjoy a seamless low-fare travel experience traveling on Frontier and Volaris.

“At Volaris we are thrilled to join Frontier Airlines as one of the first ULCC carriers to enter a codeshare agreement. We estimate that our partnership will add around 20 new destinations to our network and 80 new routes between both Mexico and the United States,” said Enrique Beltranena, Chief Executive Officer of Volaris. “Our goal is to unite families and friends on both sides of the border, and this new agreement with our partners at Frontier will allow us to expand the travel options for our audience while keeping fares low.”

Beginning in Spring 2018, flights will be available directly through Frontier on the company’s website flyfrontier.com, its mobile application and its call center. Flights will also be available through third party distributers including online travel agencies. Flights also will be available directly through Volaris’ website volaris.com and mobile application.

A natural fit between the carriers’ networks already exists with each serving more than 20 of the same markets. In addition, both carriers fly Airbus A320 aircraft. Frontier operates a fleet of 78 aircraft with 199 additional aircraft on order and Volaris operates a fleet of 71 with 128 additional aircraft on order.

Lock in scope and LTD now. Next time around we can vote NO til the cows come home. This gets us within 20-25$ Instead of $70-100, Some crappy things in Scheduling. But next time around, we can focus on pay and scheduling improvements. Maybe even get a few improvements via LOAs during these 5 years. Trust me. I want $300/hour, a hot steak and a beautiful woman(or 2) at every layover in my room. But I live in the real world... maybe someday...

Let’s see the scope language before we count our chickens. It’s got to be rock solid for the rest of this embarrassing offer. ROCK solid. I agree scope is everything and would like to lock it in as well.

What airline do you work for? We have gotten one LOA in this current 7.5 year CBA and it was beneficial to the company. The scheduling things are the most important items we currently have and will be the hardest to gain back. They do not want to face another major IROP without major changes.
