Are people so fing dumb to think that PBS wont gut your quaility. It saves the company litteraly millions a year. It does that some how Einsteins. My gosh many are now defending what they stated they would never accept just 4 months ago. And the group crumbs for a terrible TA in 3.2.1

I obviously don't have a dog in the fight, but (serious question) how does vacation touching work with a PBS? I thought that was the whole idea, to get around stuff like trip touching. Ok, you have Vaca from the 10th-16th, doesn't PBS just fill in your schedule around those days?

Actually you can have work rules or language that when your on your vacation month you can bid vacation low. ASA actually has this for their PBS system. Someone else probably knows how it work alot better than me, but the gist of it is. Lets say that month line values are average around 80hrs. On vacation low you just have to get your line value to lets say 60 hrs( you still get paid min guarantee of 72 hrs). So you take your vacation week at 7 days times by your 5 hrs a day. That is 35 hrs. So now you only have to get your remaining pairings to equal 25 hrs. Of course this only happens with the right work rules. I am not pro PBS, but without the right work rules Line Bidding and PBS both suck. Its all about work rules.

PBS could be set up a lot of different ways. But it could work with vacation trip touching by running and awarding your bid month without looking at vacation, then appling your vacation after your award. Thus dropping any trips that happen to touch your vacation. Devil’s in the details and obviously like you said the point of pbs is to reduce these types of things, so it all depends on how it’s set up.

Another think I would like to state is I talked to one of the guys on the NC at a picket event. He basically said they would entertain PBS. They said it had to be under the right conditions, and this basically what they got from the pilot polls. From my understanding from this conversation is that without the right conditions PBS will be a no go.

Ok, I can see that. Does anyone that currently uses PBS have the ability to trip touch vacations?

You have to understand PBS is nothing more than a program used to assign trips. The program will always follow the code written. With that being said it ALWAYS honors the code at all cost. This is why we as the pilots union must have a say of how the rules (Program Code) is approved. PBS isn't like line building. It doesn't build a line and then go back and trying fix conflicts. It builds lines based on what you've built in your bid group. Each group has to be less restrictive. Example would be your first bid group is a dream bid. Your last bid group MUST be built so PBS can actually build a line based on your seniority. If you're junior then it better be I'll work weekends and crappy trips. that's all you're going to get. If you're senior it will be a fantasy of getting everything you've ever wanted. Seniority is EVERYTHING with PBS. Think about it, the pot is full when the computer runs your bid groups. As the computer builds all the schedules the pot empties. If you're junior "No SOUP FOR YOU!".

Jesus C#%€t. Vacation touch is a twice a year thing. I'm more concerned about being screwed the other 10 months a year.

Just because every other airline that has PBS has crap work rules we're supposed to as well.

They want PBS which means less pilots, longer upgrades, longer time on reserve, I want majority of the work rules intact.

Your first sentence is not for many in the group. Much of the group has more than two weeks vacation

Has any other group negotiated for PBS outside of bankruptcy? Serious question.
