And yeah, without scope and real LTD it doesn’t matter if it’s a 500% increase because it’s garbage
This! Why we’re negotiating a 5yr deal blows my mind! Especially when they want PBS! Most operators have signed two CBA’s to our one and the mediator thinks it’s a great raise. Gimme a break. Most likely will be into year eight before a deal is inked.

For all the PBS love above, now insert hostile management that lives by the fly it and grieve it mentality. Then insert short staffing and tell me how that PBS is working for you. If you’re benefiting from senior guys bidding reserve right now get ready to be back on reserve and abused. Those guys and gals will learn quickly to avoid reserve like the plague when they’re flying 72hrs for 72hrs of pay with min days off.

No wonder PBS worked out so well for you.

Perhaps you missed the part where I related that I subsequently sank to the bottom of a bid list. Furthermore, I failed to mention that even later on I bid in a domestic category that greatly relied on inefficient 3, 4 and 5 day trips. It was all good with PBS. I've been through another half dozen domestic and international seats since then. Never once did the thought cross my mind: " gee life would be better if I could only go back to line bidding." Junior, mid-pack, or senior, I know for a fact that routine monthly schedules have been much higher quality for me under PBS. Once recurrent training was added to PBS, even those lousy months improved; no more company telling me what I was going to do.

Anyways, still waiting on scope, LTD, no givebacks on work rules and an industry leading pay before I would even give PBS consideration. Oh yeah, and PBS will have to come with a novel size booklet that spells out specifically what will and will not be allowed (SPA ALPA approved) before implementation.

Efficiency gained by PBS is worth 10s of millions of dollars. That money needs to come our way.
It would be nice if those 10s of millions came your way. Convincing management to make advance payments on a presumed long term efficiency is a tall order. I have zero interest in advocating PBS for your employer's benefit; just trying to point out that once the actual drawbacks are recognized, life with PBS can be a positive thing, at least from one pilot's experience (and pretty much everyone I know). Naysayers who state PBS brings a negative QOL probably haven't experienced the real impacts and are likely reading a chapter from a dated negotiating playbook. No harm in focusing on the money and staffing fallout; that's very real. Assertions of QOL degradation are in some manner subjective and rather misguided in my opinion. Wishing you Spirt guys and gals the best of luck!!

If, IF, PBS is only a way to sort, a way to more easily make a monthly bid.......

Then why would the company want PBS?

Does the company, any company, do ANYTHING on a regular basis solely for the benefit of the pilot group?

of course. So why do we have Spirit union people on social media telling us that it's "only a better way to sort" pairings?
