I kick myself for coming here and not holding out for a real airline. Unfortunately I don't really have enough time left for a do over.
Fair enough. I never got a rejection email but no email is just about the same.

I'm 34 and looking at the regionals and I feel like I'm starting over so I hear ya, but, whenever I hear about guys getting hired at Delta, AA and United and talking about how it's the shiznit, I can't help but think of what those airlines did to their own people back in the day when times were tough. AA had 2000 guys on the street at one point. They sent some of the less senior TWA guys down to Eagle to be captains on permanent reserve. Airlines are ruthless through and through. Truth is, LCCs have a better history of holding onto their people during a downturn. I don't think JetBlue has ever furloughed, even after 911.

Most of the legacies have some sort of a cog test/personality interview to filter out those who they say "won't be a good fit".

Both Spirit, and Allegiant have a narrow standard from where I sit. They hire low timers (<10000 hours), four-year degree, and two-three years in an RJ including 3000-4000 total time. There are other variables inserted, as they have to.

You're sort of a piece, haven't been on here in awhile and now remembering why I stay off here. It's a shame a few DB's like you make this place unbearable.

I appreciate the fact that the ground staff doesn't push your aircraft into another because they don't have wing walkers because that is what they do over here. I appreciate the fact that ATC doesn't start your descent until 80 track miles to the airport and then asks you to reduce speed, because that is what they do here EVERYDAY. I appreciate the fact that I can let my kids run outside without getting bitten by a mosquito and dying because that is what happens here (Yea ticks now I know). I appreciate the fact that I can buy a car for less than 100k because that is the minimum of what it costs here. If you leave to go overseas, and maybe you already are and have convinced yourself it’s okay, you will regret it almost immediately. And most of all I appreciate the fact that I won’t have to work 5 days with 1 day off and then another 5 with 2 days off and then be expected to appreciate it. Everyone is so grateful over here because if they don't comply, guess what? You are GONE. Spirit just voted to strike. Frontier also. Not ideal? Of course, it isn't. But if I go on strike here I'm the only one and possibly go to jail. When I see complaints about orange juice, or gay marriage or bathrooms, or internet not working on the airplane, I am sure those people have never really been challenged and don’t appreciate what is so amazing about our great country.
My wife, son and my passports were stolen in the Philippines. I walked into the US embassy and they said, “sorry you have to deal with that Sir. Come back tomorrow and we will have a new one for you.” My wife went to her embassy and they asked her if she sold it, and wanted two police reports and needed a signed notarized affidavit to then wait three weeks for a new one. I have had enough. I will enjoy eating burnt free eggs for the rest of my career. America has lost its way, that is correct, but other places have never found it, and people just suffer silently until they die in most places. We have something worth fighting for and if people can’t see that then I don’t know what else to say. Pilots on the other hand have been screwed over the last 15 years or longer so I understand the anger and rage. I missed the “lost decade”, but I still lost and sacrificed a lot, just in a different way. 9 years! It’s a tough business, but believe me, having flown all over the world in foreign systems, there is NO better place to be a pilot, I can promise you that. Especially now. I can’t wait to look at a continental breakfast and say “this is dog****!” It will mean that I am back, and that I have arrived. Go USA!
To be fair, I did not say to "live" over seas, although Thailand might be pretty tempting. I enjoy visiting and staying at nice hotels overseas, without having to deal with the different politics.

Meanwhile, all the other Americans have a huge smile on their face, chowing down powdered eggs, sausage patties made from slaughter house floor sweepings, maybe a preprocessed omelette covered in oil, those same damn waffles everyone has, orange juice from 2 year old concentrate, etc.
Seriously, I get a better glass of orange juice in Kuwait, then I do in a hotel in Florida. No, I take that back. THE BEST OJ I EVER HAD WAS IN KUWAIT. Ever have a free breakfast in Germany? South Korea? China? India? Middle East? Anywhere in Europe other than France?
In the United States, we have been given a **** filled smoke screen of cheapened ****, that everyone is too ignorant to realize. Absolute worst part of my job is being stateside, and I say this as a far right wing conservative who loves his country.
This is so spot on. American diet is absolute garbage and most people couldn't give a damn. They just cover their poor diets up with a bunch of pills and keep on trucking. I always ask if a restaurant has real eggs and get like a death stare. Like what the hell is wrong with this guy. Don't even get me started on asking if a restaurant uses organic.

Thailand is wonderful. The job market there for foreigners is not so good. If you stay at a Hilton, or big franchise hotel, it is very nice. I suppose this is because the lovely lady working at the front desk probably has a masters degree in hospitality and makes less than a illegal picking lettuce in California. No offense to any illegals or any front desk people. 30-50% unemployment rate does attract the most qualified. As for Europe, it has that whole, money means nothing, work for the social good, kind of concept going on. Which works great......

I went to a job fair, I was interviewed by the DFW chief pilot. His attitude and demeanor was not very welcoming, was quite a dick actually. Never heard back, didn't care from that experience.
