I've talked to a lot of guys today and the consensus is definitely to update apps/logbook and reach out to friends. It's time to book a spot at a job fair!

Nobody wants to look at time invested as a waste, but I've talked to guys that left Spirit for other airlines and can't believe how awesome it is to be respected and not work for scum. In the coming months Spirit will have achieved their dream of becoming a crummy regional and will enjoy attrition like they never thought possible. I give it 6 months. Problem is, when it starts it's hard to stop!

I had always considered riding this dump out...was never a question, this was my career destination. That shipped sailed this month! I've already wasted far too many years here. Resume updated and applications are being completed.

So count me in the actively seeking employment elsewhere club.

It's only a matter of time before management realizes this. They have run out of airspeed & altitude & now ideas. The lawsuit is proof of this. The process they are going through is very much like a death/grieving process. Shock, denial, sadness, and finally acceptance are all part of the realization that the fair market rate for pilot wages has changed dramatically in your favor. IMO your CEO is in the shock/denial phase. Blaming cancellations solely on the pilots will only work for a short while, probably not through the summer, definitely not forever.

Take a deep breath, relax, and be patient. Battling the forces of supply and demand is like swimming against the current. It doesn't matter how hard or fast you paddle, you're going downstream eventually. you guys just need to hang on and let the market do the work for you.
THANK YOU sir/madam, for one of the best posts in the Spirit subforum.
This is the reality folks.
Worth reading over and over again.

Everyone of my buddies that I talked to this last week said they are updating their resumes and apps to get out, even pilots that have good seniority on the CA side are ready to jump ship. I think this last week was the straw that broke the camels back.

I sincerely hope when it comes time for you to think about moving on to bigger and better companies you will leave the narrow minded attitude behind.

There are many ways a person can serve their fellow pilots and I have done just that. I have done more for my peers on both sides of the table than you can possibly imagine. You can only do so much for a cause when you limit yourself to one side or the other..it is this adversarial relationship that got Spirit into this mess in the 1st place.

I am in no way saying it was the pilots fault or the companies fault..both share equal responsibility and it will be a team effort if progress is to be made. If all you Spirit pilots out there want to continue sticking it to the company that's fine go right ahead just don't be angry when they turn around and file a court order for you to stop.

and lastly I am not trying to tell you how you should feel..I am not forcing you to read my posts you are welcome to move on you will not hurt my feelings. I am just a fellow pilot who has been reading APC blogs for years and saw a group in trouble. I have been in this industry longer than most of you have been alive so I am just here to give my opinion. My hope is to provide a different point of view but make no mistake my end game is the same as yours my friend. You are the future of this industry I only ask you learn a little from the past rather than repeating it. You may not like what I have to say it may not be what you want to hear but it is the reality.
Must be a past USAJet management dude.

The pilots have worked hard to not only build this airline but to try to positively build the Spirit Culture. A nice pat on the back for a job well done must be asking too much.

27 years in aviation, 6 companies plus Air Force (not USAF). One thing I have always done is go the extra mile for the company, I have always been in very good standing with management in any previous company, so don't assume my attitude. Also I just stated I have little interest in your opinion based on your belief Spirit management could be capable of negotiating in good faith. (believe me, if you were here you would know better), so don't assume my intent to put anyone down.
I have helped this company out many times, I have not attacked anyone online or in person for flying on their days off.
If you want to have an adult conversation with me please go ahead and respond to the things I complained about....
And while on the subject, NO, both do not share equal responsibility for the mess Spirit is on. I have read the whole complaint and correct me if I am wrong but nowhere did it actually give a number by which open flying pick-up had gone down, it just stated that pilots used to pick up 4% and now there is a lot of open time not getting picked up. The thing is, at the start of open time there was almost twice as many trips as the month before and reserve coverage was negative for most of the first week. That goes way above my responsibility to solve.

Believe it or not I enjoy my job, and because I feel a responsibility for my passengers I still work hard to get the job done. I just wish the people "running" this company would spend more effort in making this a good company and less time telling everyone (pilots, FA's, ground crew) we don't deserve industry average while they make more than their peers.

Are we canceling negotiations this week to help to restore the operation?
