Sorry to bring up old thread but trying to figure out the regular plan.
Says 2500 limit but also a note you may be required to pay more as determined by claims administrator. What gives?
And dental part of it seems not very good.
Very quick to brush over the regular plan in the benefits discussion.

I'd imagine you might have to pay more if you went out of network or something. I've already met my max out of pocket and everything's been free since we hit the $2500 limit. Anything preventative won't be covered so plan accordingly.
Dental is about the same as most other places I've worked. I've no complaints with it.

regular plan= 0 premiums....HSA = $220 premiums with benefits HSA being:
-free HSA money from the company ($800 or so I think) and ability to participate in dependent care account for young kids in daycare ($5000 tax deduction benefit)....plus the other choice plus benefits.
-when kids get old enough not to have that account the comparison changes so it'd probably depend on how big a family and how often you use bens. Either are decent options at least. The deductible and max OOP on the HSA are pretty high though.

That's $220/year. Most expensive HSA option is $23/pay period for employee + family. Employee only is $9/pay period.
Annual deductible on the HSA is $1500/3000 (individual/family)
Max out of pocket on the HSA is 6000/12000 (for comparison, max OOP on the regular plan is $2500)

Money you contribute to the HSA is your money and can be invested, as you would money in a 401(k). I think you need a balance of $2000 before you can start investing. You are not required to use this money for deductibles and some folks keep building it year after year. Or you can keep growing it like a savings account.
For 2017 the maximum individual contribution is $3400, more for families. It's a good vehicle for retirement, if you can afford the cash outlay of the higher deductibles.
The actual premiums for a single person in the HSA are only $4.50/pay period or $9/month. That's really cheap. Your individual contributions raise this monthly amount, but again, those aren't premiums, they're contributions to your own account.
I went with the HSA option and think it will work well for me. Research it. They're a pretty good deal in my opinion.

For you mil retirees ignore all the discussion about a HSA--you're not eligible to participate. Your best choice is either TriCare Prime and have SWA pay you $50 a month to not be covered by them or the Regular Plan with TriCare Standard as secondary coverage if you have limited TriCare service where you live.
