I think Hawaiian would be a better fir. Spirit is an entirely airbus fleet. Southwest is known for an all inclusive pricing structure while Spirit is the exact opposite of that (and their customers are used to bare bones prices and cramming as much as they can into their personal item).
Hawaiian offers them access to a stated near term goal (routes to Hawaii), and would ensure that their expansion into the Hawaiian market is quick and strong. It also opens up Hawaiian's routes to Asia (Japan, Australia, etc). With Boeing's production of the 767 assured for several years to come (767-400) this would be a lucrative option if a fleet expansion was on the horizon too.
Just my two cents!

What Hawaiian does is brand unique and really promotes the Hawaiian vacation from the moment you step on the jet.
If SWA really wants to "open up Asia/Pacific access" they'd be better off just flying to HNL and codesharing with JETSTAR as they offer a similar product on a long range basis.

The scope language in the new CBA severely limits what the company would be able to do with such a stake. I sincerely doubt it would be worth it to them.

I don't know. My understanding is that it's much easier for a U.S. carrier to buy a foreign airline than vice versa, but again....I'm not educated on the topic. Perhaps someone who is can chime in.

But even if we did I think we'd have to fold them in and then that begs all sorts of questions such as would their pilots be allowed to be U.S. based if they don't have a right to work in the States. Seems like a huge headache for SWA.

Wouldn't give it much thought. Won't happen. Neither will Hawaiian.
