Funny thing is I had better luck giving away reserve than a weekend three-day PM now.
***?! More power to ya. RSV is like cancer....nobody wants it and you sure as frack can't give it away.

Wow that's working a lot. Are you off of reserve? I can't even pick up a trip march 1 cause of duty limits for the month I haven't even flown yet. Being on reserve really impedes ones ability to fly more. Off of reserve in a junior base I can see that working bidding open time at straight pay, 2nd yr pay for 1st yr guys, I didn't know people were getting off reserve that quick even in junior bases.

I'm hit or miss between reserve and blank, but should be in the solid blank line territory from April going forward. I held a line in Nov-Dec, reserve in January, blank line in February, back on reserve in March.

Generally, I've been fortunate to be able to pick up 3 day premiums. Not the juiciest ones but decent-paying 3 days. Senior sharks will generally snap up the premium day trips and good paying 2 days. I'd only bid them at straight if they're relatively low block and it includes long deadheads. For example, a transcon one way and DH back, you'll have senior guys all over it at premium because it's something like 14 trips at premium, but it'll pay something like 9 or more at straight for maybe 4 hours of block time. At second year pay, it really makes a difference.

Here are a few tips to pad your check if you're a first year guy:

I generally don't play with MOT. HOT, SNOTP and maybe DOT on weekends is where the action is for us first year guys.

Sign up for OT alerts. Also you can set them to alert you if there are DH's coming to/from your city if you're a commuter.

If you pick up reserve blocks from open time, you'll get paid that block at second year rate and anything you fly during that block will also be at second year rate. Reserve flying tends to include a lot of DHing and keeps your block hours relatively low, and then when scheduling tacks on more at premium, you just go cha-ching!

Living in domicile makes it pretty easy to pick up VPF. Also, you'll still have HOT alerts rolling around throughout the day, and if you're legal, you can get some good ones like that. Be sure you're aware of reserve coverage for the next day. If they have plenty of reserves, the only way you'll get it is if you bid it straight or it goes to reserve.

If you're missing your window of opportunity to make extra cash, and you really want to fly, you can take a trip from reserve at straight time and get paid second year rate for it. I haven't done this myself, but it is an option. Captains seem to do this more often than FO's.

Anyway, hope this helps.

Daaaammmmnnnn. I didn't work it as much as you did. I think I had a 115-120 avg for my 1st yr. My block for the year is over 900 so I gotta watch it now and be more careful about what I pick up. I couldn't get any premium on 1st yr...top 60 or so in DEN can hold CA and play the clear your board and pick up premium game so it's hard unless a SNOTP or VPF trip. Could've probably gotten a OAK or LAS trip but didn't feel like commuting so didn't look. I usually picked up a couple day trips or a 2 day a month to get the credit up. Spent most of the summer biking or hanging out in the mountains and skiing/boarding in the winter.

117 is a rolling 1000....but you'd be pulled for legality until you're legal. Not sure if you're pay protected every time, you are if there's a rest issue.

Depends on if hiring continues. If so, DAL within 6 months, MCO 1 to 2 years, ATL many many years.
