My fear is it doesn't help that much anymore.

I went to a job fair in 2015 and flat out told them I'd pay for the type if it'd get me a interview. They told me to save my money and I interviewed a month later. You certainly don't need it anymore, but I have no idea how many "points" it'll get you when you check the box. If it puts you over and gets you on the list it could be worth it. Depends if 10-15k is worth it to get on sooner rather than later.

In mid 2015 it made a difference for sure. Of course it still counts...but how much? Magic question.

In my class of 28, only 6 have the type. During my interview, Rocky said they prefer you don't have the type now so you don't have to unlearn the non SWA way. I'd save the money and not get the type.

A 737 type, if you have no 121 or jet time says you want to work at SWA. I think it still has value in some respects.

Is there a difference in the training footprint/checkride based on whether or not you already have a 737 type?

Typed guys get a few extra days off as the other folks are taking orals. Check rides nearly identical except for a few extra maneuvers the non-type guys do.

I highly respect Rocky but have to say from personal experience that having the type only made Dallas and the transition on the line easier. However thats me speaking having a mil background. From what I hear if you have prior 121 you know all the multipilot, comm and deice stuff which means you only learn a different type which should be a breeze.

ALL of the airlines seem to choose the degree as the biggest point maker if you will.
I have a bachelor's in aeronautical engineering and a master's degree and I've been an instructor pilot for the Air Force and I've talked to them at multiple job fairs--still nothing...

No idea man. I've got friends with clean records and 1000s of hrs TPIC with degrees and they haven't heard a peep either.

If we're hiring 700 this year figure they'll interview 850-1000ish. Probably 5-10,000 apps on file. So your odds of getting a interview are less than 25%. Took me 7 years before they called...and I know guys that've gotten the invite after applying 1 time. It's a crapshoot. Apply every window and update every few weeks. Double check app for errors and make sure your medical/passport dates are correct.
