Southwest Hiring Info 2016

Why anybody would buy a 737 type rating right now is completely beyond me. What a collosal waste of time and money, as well as devaluing your own worth as a pilot... all on a lottery ticket?! Unless Uncle Sam is paying for it, don't bother. In another year there will be plenty of jobs to go around.

Probably the only good scenario for buying a type rating in this hiring environment is to remove a centerline thrust restriction and get an ATP rating at the same time. Of course, that's also assuming the GI Bill is covering most or all of the cost. So probably just talking to military only guys.

Heard the same, hoping it's true. A lot of my friends tell me I'm crazy for wanting to work at SWA because of all the retirements at the legacies, but I will tell you this... I have never ran into one of your crews who were rude, dismissive, or unhappy for that matter. Quite the opposite in fact. I think that speaks a lot to your company culture. I'd be happy to work there.

That CULTure that you've got a hard-on for is slowly but surely fading.

Compared to my corporate gig, I only devalued my financial worth on a temporary basis and will have parity by year three without OT...but in my opinion my worth as a pilot is only in question in hindsight, which I will hopefully be able to analyze at age 65.
Constructive non-trolling question: How much value would you put on a seniority date of November of last year vs. November of 2016? How much value would you place in having 700 pilots below you vs. above you? Is that worth $7300?
Of course, we have to get to November before we have the actual numbers...and bless the hearts of everyone else out there waiting for the call in the mean time.
