That is an extremely rare scenario. I was able to do this a handful of times during 18 months of reserve. Most of the time you are stuck with your reserve blocks as they are awarded to you.

This was posted on the Pilot Credentials login page, today. Discuss…

We are overjoyed by the excitement and interest surrounding the Pilot Hiring event on September 24th. The Job Fair Registration is complete, but to accommodate those who were not able to secure a time slot we will be accepting applications for the First Officer position soon. This job posting will be available at Southwest.com/Careers starting Saturday, September 24th at approximately 7:00 am CDT and close Monday, September 26th at midnight CDT.

Those that have received a time slot were sent an email, confirming a morning or afternoon appointment. Remember, we cannot accommodate any walk-ins during the job fair.

Again, we thank you for your interest in Southwest Airlines and look forward to seeing you at a future job fair.

So are they doing interviews at the event? Best of luck to everyone who was able to get in and go. Wish I were joining you!

What's your base and if one had 10 flights a day into base (CLT-BWI)) would picking up days be easy to plan for, or are they normally last minute and living in base is the only viable way to pick up ? Lots of questions, but it seems that at SWA vs AA one could earn much more as a FO. Thoughts ?
I had 13 actual days off in July and 11 in Aug. I picked up a 3 day at the end of June to bid a July conflict and they removed a couple RSV days. They didn't use me 4 days in July and 6 for Aug. So take that x6 and I'd have made that much more under the AIP.

I don't commute and don't mind working a day off if they don't use me on RSV since I spend RSV at the pool or biking, etc. I just make sure I say within 2 hrs of the airport. I'm based in DEN and picking up is easy if you want to do it.

FWIW..

Heard today that the $80/hr rumor is incorrect. It will be in that NEIGHBORHOOD after the conversion from TFP. Supposedly more details on that to be released shortly.

Quick clarification, the B-fund (technically the defined contribution plan) REPLACES the matching 401K. There will not be any matching funds if the TA passes.

It will be a 12% the first year of the TA, then 14%, then 15% the third year.

More than likely will be the same 401K account everybody has today, but rather than requiring a 10% contribution to get the company's 9.3%, they will just throw in 12% (or 14% or 15%). Since it is still a 401K, it is still YOUR MONEY. No vesting period. The minute it hits your account it is yours. It can't be taken away in bankruptcy despite what some captains may tell you (that's a defined benefit, or "A plan" - we don't have one of those.

Obviously you can't retire on 15% so you can continue to make your own contributions from your paycheck into your 401K just like you do today, and most FOs will until they hit that $56000 limit.

The nice thing about this is that if you have something happen in your personal life where you need every penny of your take home (divorce, catastrophe etc) the company will still make contributions on your behalf... unlike today, where if you stop your contributions, you are out of luck with regard to retirement.

Hope that clears it up a bit.

Hopefully something in the neighborhood, first year pay is tough. Of course we all know what we are signing up for to begin with, but the statement of a lot of people taking such a huge pay cut first and even second year still holds correct. Patiently waiting to see what comes out today. I appreciate the feedback Zap, as always.
