The difference is that at DAL, you will actually move up the seniority list pretty quickly due to the massive retirement numbers. Here, we still have a relatively young group above you on the list. I have almost 15 years left (unless I miraculously win Powerball).

[quoteYou get the narrow body and you do similar type schedules as SW. [/quote]

Unlike here, you will not remain junior forever. At some point, your seniority at OALs will allow many other choices that most folks would agree are better than the regional stuff we do. These are options that you will not, (and not likely ever) have at SW. At least now, we have some attrition amongst the newer hires, many, I'm sure, are senior to you, so there's that. The retirements are starting to trickle out too. There's at least a few per month nowadays.

I fly out of one of the most senior bases, and lots of the FOs I fly with are looking elsewhere, many with 4-6 years on the property.

I don't care what the upgrade is at DL, AA, UAL. Typically the shortest upgrade is on a place/base that nobody wants to be in or on. And for good reason. RSV forever in NYC? Pass. What's the upgrade in ATL? Or SLC? Or LAX? That's more indicative of true upgrade time for those not willing to trash their QOL for a few extra bucks.
A quick upgrade moves the list, so even if you choose not to upgrade, those above you likely will, and the good seats will trickle down to the more junior folks. Here, the upgrade time is glacial now, and, unless there's a sea change in Mecca, you are gonna be stuck with regional type schedules the rest of your career.

Once you get off reserve at SW, the only things you have to look forward to are your yearly pay raises, getting better and more vacation weeks, getting different days off, and some seniority to bid on and actually get premium on them. Everything else is the same for the most junior and the most senior.

For me I'm keeping an eye on the pay rates and the retirement. If our next CBA doesn't get us to par or above the legacies for narrow body I'll have to think long and hard about staying put.
Good thinking. Don't wait too long though! Every day you wait, there's more folks on the list above you at another airline! ;-)

Like international flying, I avoid AMs like the plague. I've done exactly 6 AM trips in the last 15 years, and 4 of those were because I forgot to bid about 10 years ago, and got AM, weekend reserve. That punishment was enough to remind me to NEVER forget to bid again.

That, and less, was the norm until 9/11. I actually could've gone a month earlier, but as a senior FO, I had the last half of November and ALL of December off for vacation, and didn't want to ruin it by going to Mecca, just to commute to Lance Capt.

I am not exaggerating when I say we were growing like mad in the mid to late '90's. The OALs might not be growing, but their massive retirement numbers will have the same effect on SL movement.

No, there are Nov '15 hired guys who are there already and Aug '15 guys holding blank lines.

Hey guys. I start in September and I was wondering how long rsv is running. I'm hoping to be DAL based eventually but I may commute to Vegas or OAK if I can hold a line relatively quick.

Best guess is 4-5 months of reserve in DAL. Ymmv.

Feeding your employees who can't otherwise access food is the right thing to do. Period. I highly doubt anyone working in the GO would go 11 hours without access to food or a break to leave their office. Then when I am sitting in the hot cockpit eating my turkey on Italian herb and cheese, the cleaners kick me out of my one place where I can sit down so that they can do a security sweep and take out the trash. So now I am standing in a jetbridge in Aruba eating a sandwich I bought myself. Awesome.
Every prison in the USA must feed the murderers, rapists and bad guys 3 times a day.
The LUV most successful airline of all time that pretends to Care about its People and Internal customers, not so much.

Thanks. I know it can change but that's better than I thought it would be.
