Gents,
I start class in roughly 10 days. I'm not typed…any advice on how well to know the info that Rocky sends out? Also, I didn't get an FOM or anything like that; basically i'm wondering how "prepared" should I come to class (if that makes sense)

You have been on property less than a year. You're a new hire. Stop acting like you have 17 days off and you cherry pick premium when you feel like it.

You all seem to be very educated on Southwests contract so i'm sure you're familiar with anything picked up out of company open time first year actually pays BETTER than premium as you're paid at second year rates. I never said I was sitting fat and happy and had my pick of the litter on open time, however when you pick up a two day on your days off that originally credits 15-16 tfp, its doesn't take a mathematician to figure out the pay on that. Reserve lines themselves (since your brought up days off) run anywhere from 14-16 days off for the month. This month, the blank line I was awarded had 16 days off and roughly 105tfp. I was able to use ELITT and bring my credit to 111tfp. Making the trips as I said credit between 23 and 25 tfp. I will be picking up a two day to pad the paycheck at premium and hope to bring my credit into the 130 range with 14 days off.
I'm not sure why you're on a Southwest forum if you possess so much hatred for the company. I'm glad that you have moved on to much better endeavors such as UAL and DAL; lord knows we would never summarize such noble carriers as "regionals" although 5-6 legs a day on a 717 or -88 out of LGA sure sounds like it to me. It's funny how quickly we forget the past, for it was just a few years ago I had second time UAL furloughs swinging my gear for me at a Regional telling me the biggest mistake they made in the late 90's was turning down SWA. I do remember vaguely doing a thesis report on UAL's financials in the late 90's, I think their BE LF was somewhere around 100%. I hope for you and your families sake that greed does not create that situation again, I sleep soundly at night knowing our BE is currently roughly 60%. I am very far from agreeing with everything Southwest is currently doing; their prolonged contract talks, numerous side letters that were voted for (why who knows but I can almost guarantee it will never happen again).
So in the end, after that explanation if I got "owned" so be it. Whatever helps you to feel better about your decision feel free. However as I said why you continue to lurk on a Southwest Forum when you're so much happier at your current airline leaves a lot for the mind to ponder.
Good luck to you and your future endeavors!

To be completely fair, SW reserve IS 14-16 days off, BUT if you are a commuter, not really. None of the reserve lines are commutable on both ends (and very few of the hard line trips for that matter)
So if you are an AM reserve, you commute in to domicile the night before your first day of reserve. If you are PM reserve you commute home the day after.
That takes the 14-16 days off down to an effective 9-11 days off (depending upon how many blocks of reserve you have in the month)
Also, there is NO long call reserve at SW, and no pre-release days like at many other carriers. So while our competitors may have 12 days off on reserve... many of those days might be spent at home on long call, making their "effective days off" (my term) much greater.
This is not a good airline if you intend to be a commuter long term.

When I was on reserve I bid PM reserve and always had my preferences set to AM so on the majority of my 4 day blocks they would deadhead me somewhere the first day to start a 3 day AM the next day which made my block commutable on both ends. I have also been able to ELITT into all trips that were commutable on both ends in the past month and a half. Maybe it's a fluke and dumb luck, but I'm living a pretty good life as a commuter until I can hold a blank line in MCO.
With that said Reserve blows!!! It needs some serious work. Long call and pay by the block to start with.

Hello all,
I am currently a regional CA. I have 3,000 TT and 500 TPIC. I'm aware the TPIC requirement is currently 1,000. Should I go ahead and sign up for Pilot Credentials and complete the application or wait until I meet the requirements? Is the rumor on dropping the TPIC down still going around?
Thanks

Ok, well if less than a year constitutes new hire I stand corrected. However most people hired last fall have held blanks lines for months and some hard lines (junior bases west coast). There are a few exceptions of some folks being on reserve the whole time; however that will soon change.

This is not the 90's and Herb doesn't work here anymore. Those kool aid videos the company showed you in new hire training a few months ago really did a number on you.
Do you realize we had a crew sleep in the ATL terminal last nigh because scheduling couldn't find them a room?

I've been at SWA for 10 years. If you think anyone in management is going to save your job in hard times I feel sorry for you. A SWA chief pilot fired a guy in the jetway for going to United last year, took his ID, dropped his health care, and escorted him off property. Someone in Dallas got so offended he turned in a resignation letter. Delta and United have better job security based on their retirements alone.

Where did I say management was going to save my job? When did I mention Herb? What new hire videos are you talking about? I was stating BE LF's and profitability. You completely took my post out of context to fit your needs.
