It was probably developed in the Air Force. If you were never in the Air Force, you will be when you get hired at SWA. Feel free to put your call sign on your board.

Never heard an Air Force pilot outside of SWA call their schedule their board. They call it the flight schedule. It's a SWA thing, kinda like having your schedule posted for the world to see.

Not intending on starting a civ/mil battle. Just wondering if back in the day there was actually a whiteboard with everyone's schedule on it or something and the name just stuck. Innocent question.

I flew with a very senior dallas captain a few years ago and i asked the same question. He said back in the beginning that you walked into the check in office and everyones schedule was hand written on a 12x12 cardboard piece that was tacked to the wall. In order to change your schedule, you had to submit your request on paper and when it was approved, the coordinator would walk over and pencil in the changes on your "board". It sound plausible considering the level of technology i have witnessed around here.
