My interview went nothing like that!
I prepped with Career Takeoff but was never asked. If I had been asked I would have told the truth.
Very laid back interview, no hostility. Nice people, had a bunch of laughs and got the offer.

The legacies aren't hiring 100 percent either. Does that mean they are also looking for a reason not to hire you?
The new hires are getting more than just Oakland, for your information.
To upcoming interviewees, don't believe that as the typical interview environment. Be you, smile, and have fun with it.

I know of zero people hired, and not hired, with the same experience as you. Every single person I know has had a great experience. It is probably demoralizing to be rejected because you didn't come across as the type of person they are looking for. No reason to spread false information about it as if it is the standard interview experience.

Both BettercallSaul and I enjoyed the not so positive experience, as well as 12 of the 13 folks in my demographic who interviewed in a two day span early in the hiring wave. Specifics available by PM but not really the point. I think they have changed some things, and many folks I know had the more expected SWA experience. And most can plan on a pleasant day, but you need to be ready for the curveball. SWA still hires the least number of interviewees.

Southwest is the only airline currently still interviewing with the looking for a reason to not hire you mentality. A great company and still a very good job, but sometimes some of their interviewers are pretty full of themselves. And that can make for a very bad day. I used the other interview prep with a previous SW manager and it was pretty generic. Crossed a lot of T's and dotted a lot of I's. And the HR and Admin people were great. But in a the interview and SBI and logbook check it was 5 annoyed and aggressive SW folks. In the rooms besides me I could hear the interviews I expected. Pretty unprofessional, and a quick TBNT. Went to EC and got two jobs in two interviews. And probably would have had an approach to deal with that interview situation. SWA invited me to reinterview but I declined in writing. They called me and asked if I meant to decline. The nice hiring board FO and I chatted for a while and both parted a bit wiser. Bottom line EC or anybody else doesn't make or break you if you don't personalize it. But at SWA, you need to be ready for the hostile interview. As I told my new hiring board friend, 15 years to Captain and commuting to Oakland isn't worth placating hostile....interviewers.
Better jobs out there.

On another note, not everyone commutes to OAK. We have people getting the majority of the bases their first month. Additionally, the 15 year upgrade was based on people hired 3-4 years ago during the acquisition; assuming 0 growth.
People hired today assuming 0 growth can expect roughly 10 years. However, Southwest is hiring a little over 800 this year, with 600 planned a year for foreseeable future; they are building a bigger simulator facility. Keep in mind we are only 8,000 ish pilots.
So, an upgrade will be quicker at other companies but it's all about what you want. Things are a little rough here now with negotiations but that will pass.

Correct, I misspoke. However based on the numbers this year and projected it's looking like a lot more than 1%.
Although, realistically trying to predict upgrade at an airline is near impossible

The correct answer on upgrade is who knows.
With current growth, it will be somewhere around 12 years. When we stop growing i.e. during a down economic cycle, it will get longer. We just don't have the retirement numbers that the Legacies do. Plenty of guys here upgrading now at just shy of 10 years who thought it would be a lot longer. Lots of guys are passing on upgrade for summer vacation and cherry lines in their home base.
