I tend to agree but if you're trying to get hired, being drizzled in a fresh coat of Koolaid can't hurt as I'm sure that's what they want to hear at the interview. Just know that the current relationship with management has shifted. I still think the people we work with everyday embody what the book advertises. Sadly, it appears that some of our most important "leaders" don't. I very much enjoy working here but, I'm Just hoping we can get a legitimate contract under wraps so we can move on from begrudging company plans to embracing them.

What is the context of that quote? An issue filling classes with pilots or an issue filling classes with non-typed pilots?

I believe they want to have a certain ratio of typed/ non-typed students. That's why those with the type get earlier classes. Fewer typed guys getting hired lately.
As far as not filling classes; this is true. People are cancelling their class's dates and some not showing.

Also, is there a way to create a SW pilot credentials profile without having the 1000 hours? I'm getting close to 1000, and would like to get started on it. Thanks
Starting on pilot credentials shouldn't be a problem, but DO NOT apply in iCims until you have met all minimum requirements. Southwest hires by putting out a requisition hiring number, and if you get that TBNT email because you don't meet a minimum, you have to wait until the next requisition comes out before they'll look at you again.

I read it and found it useful, especially answering the "Why SWA?" question. It also has some of the company trivia that you might get asked (which I think was mostly just for the amusement of my logbook reviewer, but you never know.)

I interviewed a week and a half ago. Got the email to call them a couple of days later and was told I passed the interview team portion and now on to the hiring board. Got instructions for drug test and my references have been called. Now just anxiously waiting for a phone call. They really don't like emerald coast. When walking back to the interview room with one of their pilots we were chit chatting and I asked him a question about his past. He immediately stopped and kind of got angry. He said something like "stop doing that emerald coast thing where you try to interview me." Went on to say how they hate people coming in and acting like robots and giving the same answers. I was caught off guard cause I was just asking him a question since we were having casual conversation on the way to the interview room. I was asked if I'd done the prep and that I better not "do any of that emerald coast stuff while I was there". Anyway just FYI. Have a good personality, smile, be talkative and I think you'll be good. Try not to be a robot and don't over practice your answers with them.

Gee, sounds like standard small talk in the aviation business. Must have had some sour milk in his cheerios that morning.....

First - Congratulations on the interview and it sounds like you did a great job. Second, I have also gone through the Emerald Coast interview prep and I can see how it would be really easy to use a lot of their answers and wording verbatim. I don't think this was the intention of the material or is a good idea going into an interview (not implying you did this, the background question is pretty standard between pilots). I do think the framework they present and the tips they give on displaying positive body language are useful but as applicants we have to use that framework to then build our individual answers.

I have had the opportunity to interview 100's of pilots over my career for some industry leading flight organizations and what professional companies in almost any field look for is fairly simple and universal.
  1. Does your resume show you are qualified for the position you are applying for.
  2. Are you good at the skill you would be hired to perform.
  3. Will you represent the company favorably.
  4. Will get you get along with all the different personalities you are going to interact with daily.
  5. Do you have strong moral character.
  6. Are you going to cause me, the interviewer (CP, ACP, HR), more work.
  7. Will you be here long enough to make the time and effort we will put into training you worth it.
  8. And again, are you going to create more work for me.

Go in there, prove to them based on your background and performance that you are the guy or gal for the job and be an individual that other people would like to interact with.

Anyways, off on a bit of a tangent, stepping down now . Great job and I hope you get the good news soon!

This is a great comment!

I suspect regardless of your piloting skills/background, companies are looking for good "people".

I can't fathom a scenario where reading a book that will provide the interviewee a wealth of knowledge about the history and culture of the company would be a bad thing.

It's an easy read, and more entertaining than educating oneself via Google search.
