By half though. That's a lot. I don't pretend to know the economics of this BUT the less you offer in ATL, the more likely DAL will get the business. It's common sense. I'm not saying going toe to toe with DAL in every market but it seems they handed a least 12 markets, all are now monopolies by DAL. I guess if your not making money or just a little, you can use the assets in better markets to get a better return of investment, then that's the way to go.

Take some time and read Kelly's comments in an investor relations publication talking about "de-hubbing" Atlanta. He lays out the plan pretty concisely.
So, given that Kelly can explain away the ATL failure, should we now dehub DEN? How about dehubbing MDW? Surely BAL is ripe for a slim down.
Just because the General says it doesn't make it the best plan, it's just the current plan. The result is, was, and always will be the complete deconstruction (and demoralization) of Airtran. That should give you pause to consider what lies in the future for the RSW pilots. Flattish is just the beginning.

He has to. That's his job.

Well you have to hub and spoke to a degree. There is no way that one airline can point to point everywhere in the world and make money. SWA is doing a great job of making money with their model, and as an investor, (Bought Calls and Sold Puts) I thank GK for what he is doing. My comment was not at all about that anyway. It was just a little poke in the ribs after hearing about how ya'll were gonna run us out of ATL, and now it has been tomahawk chopped.

As a moderately passionate SW-hater, I have to admit that I really like what you guys have done in ATL. I don't like the fact that the AirTran guys had to pay the price for it, but taking out a mutual competitor was very kind, and raising average fares in ATL is good for both airlines.
I wonder where on their persons the passengers most feel the impact of the Southwest Effect. I'm guessing it's the same spot where the Air Tran pilots feel it.
But I don't want to sound ungrateful: thank you, SW!
