I think that WhackMaster is saying that SWA could make even more money as a company and for their shareholders if they changed some of the ways that they have succeeded in the past to some of the ways of the present time. I'm certain that the shareholders wouldn't have any issues with it, especially if there could be a chance of putting more money in their pockets. The success of SWA has been unprecedented for many years doing it their way, yes. Sometimes things need to be fixed when they're not broken to keep up with the Jones's especially when the Jones's are 20 years ahead. Disclaimer (for those who are quick to jump the gun), I'm not trying to attack you or your views, just trying to illustrate a point. Did I get that right Whack?

All correct. There's more money to be had by cleaning up the operation and actually using some of the fuel saving procedures that are supposed to be utilized.

Yeah, of course. Because the persistent runway excursions, landing at the wrong airport, plowing one into LGA, running one off the taxiway in DEN and ISP, and the recent tail strike on the -800 in LAS that never made the news, all point the fact that you guys run a safe operation.

Whatever......

Lets not be too hard on them. It happens. Actually, I don't blame the pilots as much as the training dept/flight ops. Leadership is failing big time in that area. Change needs to come from management not the line pilots. What's scary is I think the majority of guys don't think their is a problem. NTSB now has two investigations going on at SWA. Either way, that is not good.

Totally agreed. Change does need to come from the top. You've also got to factor in the amount of takeoff and landings that such a huge airline has with such short average stage lengths relatively speaking, but even still there's a serious problem with the amount of &:/" ups that occur at SWA. It's the "hurry up" CULTure at work.

"hurry up culture"? Not really. AT was for more time oriented. I'm not sure why I print my pairings because those times are more what you would call "guidelines". That's all before the door shuts though. Even after, most guys/gals I fly with don't taxi/fly around with their hair on fire. Some do, though. Just an observation of both operations.

Enough do. Plenty. AT was a much more on time operation. SW is not a hurry up culture at the present time, but the same cannot be said for flt ops.

Are you getting tired yet of the aircraft rolling before you even have a chance to call for taxi?

Saw a SWA plane get yelled at in ATL for doing just that. Must have rolled 10 feet before calling. Ramp jumped on them for not calling first and made them sit there while other planes taxied around them. FWIW, I've seen it happen to other airlines too.

Anyone know anything about a SWA/Atlanta tower incident that somehow seems to be downlow/hush-hush/swept under the rug? I'd repeat it but I don't want to spread total BS if it's just that. Conversely, if it did happen, I can't believe it hasn't spread like wildfire.

It wouldn't surprise me. I think every airline has had an issue or two in ATL. ATC in the ATL expect you to be familiar with their procedures and not to deviate. EX. 190 kts to the marker. Until you have been in and out of there a few times things will happen.
