Hiring -- have the calls started yet

Age 65-34 years old=31 year career. Year 2014+31 years=2045 retirement year. On the master seniority list there's 45 pilots who will retire in year 2045 or later making them 34 years old or younger right now. I hope I did that right.

Hired on Dec 5th, I'm overjoyed! I hope the best for everyone else who is waiting. I'm thinking Jan 2 or 22nd class date, but no calls yet from HR.
After reading this thread gents, just a question. I'm 34yrs old, single, and want to live on the west coast. Are the upgrade times worse or better than I understand them to be now, which is ~10-15yrs. Thoughts? (my intent is to not diverge the original intent of this thread). Thanks!

At least you can be in one of the junior FO bases on the Left Coast.

Another thing to consider is that living in base and not commuting can actually be looked at as a pay raise/not a pay cut. By being able to bid on short notice open time trips, you can really clean up once you get some seniority in your seat. There's a guy in my base that's about halfway up the FO list and and probably makes 230-240K a year just by making himself flexible and available for very short notice trips that pop up. I think he still averages 13-14 days off a month. He's not senior enough to get the longer notice 1.5X $ open time trips but he gets a lot of the trips that leave in a few hours and pay 1.5X. Something to consider when deciding whether to commute or not. Of course, for the first few years it won't matter until you gain some seniority.

Thanks again. Yes, depending on where I'm based (assuming OAK, PHX, LAS), I'd move close to there IOT grab those trips. I like to travel and, like you said, the pay is good if you are flexible. From what I hear, SWA keeps the reserves light, so consistently picking up trips when you are junior may be possible.

If my caveman math is correct there are 45 pilots age 34 or younger on the SWA master list. I'm not sure about Airtran.
