If SWA does choose to implement bag (and other) fees, will it be a PR challenge? You bet....in the near-term if not handled properly. I'm betting they will handle it properly (though clearly, it won't for a moment fool the Delta Peanut Gallery here on APC ) and will still maintain the necessary consumer value perception in what ever ticket price/ancillary fee arrangement they decide on.
Then again, maybe Bags Fly Free Forever! After all, I'm just a (non-legacy ) line puke....what do I know.
P.S. My sincere apologies for encouraging this blatant thread hijack! Let's get back to discussing how SWA is screwing up those 717s for Mother Delta!

Hey I got some questions for any ATN 717 drivers.
I bring gifts.
So anyways. If you're shooting an ILS and you want to draw an intercept path to a FAF just for you own reference, is there a way to do it where the line extends out indefinitely? It's something we're used to in 88 land but they said the 717 FMS can't and explained why it can't and in doing so, drew an indefinite line from a FAF tracking inbound. They were shocked but then couldn't figure out what they did to make that happen.
The 757 and 88s FMSs are similar, the 717 is very different and inspires a lot of "where in the hell is the..." We've got a good FMS software to use at home and that helps a lot but nobody I've talked to can figure out the inbound course line drawing thing except to build a point prior to the FAF and use that.
Any help is much appreciated.

And fwiw, the latest and greatest rumors are that Delta is going to simply remove the tray tables in the exit rows and the FAA is okay with that and they'll enter service. The first one supposedly flew up from MIA today and will spend a week with Delta maintenance.
Yes there is a backlog and it's costing Swa $4000/week in ramp fees wherever they're being converted. Someone said per jet, but I'm not sure. There are a lot of them taking up room. As to who pays for the delays, I have no idea. Point fingers.

You can also enter a PBD into the fix page and extend a line in any direction (if you have a lot of time on your hands).

Unlike you, I don't think our (or for that matter, your) passengers are that stupid. I don't believe there are that many who have yet to "catch on" to the fact that SWA isn't ALWAYS THE LOWEST FARE. There...I said it....for those remaining few who hadn't already caught on.

I honestly don't think the legacies feel SWA is that much of a threat anymore. Bigger issues are things like M R Rats flying MXP-JFK. That is much more of a threat than SWA. Besides, SWA seems a bit stuck in the mud with the merger. It will be interesting to see if they start charging for bags though.

I'm not sure what you're asking, exactly. The fix page works just like the 88, in that you could insert the FAF and enter a reciprocal course for increased s.a., but I don't think that's your question.
You can also enter a PBD into the fix page and extend a line in any direction (if you have a lot of time on your hands).

There is no way to draw an extended centerline, but you can use the invisible one.
27 driver said it.
'clear the turn point' and the FMS extends a direct line from the last point in list to infinty. It just doesn't draw it on the display. Once you are wings level (must be wings level!) hit 'Nav' and it'll capture the course.
I came to the 717 from the 737. I loved the box in the 737. I think the 717 box is a spawn of satan.
Have fun!
