What if you're not recovering? Is that disqualifying?

Yep. It shows an inability to disconnect from the LUV.

I believe it's an old German word called "networking." Much like the name "San Diego," no one is really sure what it means.

So, if I'm getting this straight these unhappy SWA F.O.'s are asking their Delta contacts for the phone numbers of chief pilots, then picking up the phone and calling chief pilots directly about their future hiring possibilities at Delta Air Lines. Yep, that sounds completely reasonable to me as well as a sound strategy for getting hired at the airline of your choice. I am sure most chiefs are more than thrilled to field unsolicited cold calls from from unknown prospective hiring candidates and aren't the least bit interested as to where you came across their number. As a matter of fact, I'm quite sure that is exactly how you get your name moved to the top of the list when the hiring begins. Or, on the other hand it may sound completely ridiculous.

Believe it or not, that is almost exactly how it works, and yes, the CPs are more than willing to take the calls. You may not know it, but the culture at Delta is a bit different than SWA. The make or break factor in the interview is the personality of the applicant. Delta doesn't do a sim ride because the theory is, if you get called for an interview, you already know how to fly, no need to prove it again. The more people in the company who can say, "This is a good guy/girl," the better. That is why if an applicant can get a pre-interview with a CP, the better off they are.

Yep, I figured that's what you would say. Sounds completely reasonable to me.

Ya know, for someone who constantly rants about people who are not SWA employees who think they know how things work at SWA, you sure seem to think you know how things work at Delta.

Hypocrite much?

You're right I so often spend my time on Delta threads telling Delta folks how things work at Delta.
You mentioned a Delta chief "fielding a lot of calls from junior SWA FOs about the potential hiring situation at Delta." and I simply pointed out that I found it odd that "lots" of pilots from any airline, not just SWA would be direct dialing chief pilots about jobs. I would find that odd at SWA or American or any airline. But, if that's the way it works at Delta I'll take you at your word.
I don't doubt for a moment that F.O.'s at Southwest or many other airlines might be seeking employment at Delta I was questioning the viability of cold calling chief pilots looking for jobs, but apparently that's how it's done at Delta.

No, but you feel the need to do it here. You asked how it was done at Delta. I told you. You think that I'm wrong or full of BS. Sorry Delta doesn't operate the way Shoelu thinks that it should. Best you stay at SWA. You and Delta are obviously not a good fit. I'd hate for you to be unhappy here. Truly. That's why I had no intention of ever working for SWA, even though Herb Kelleher and my father were friends. I knew I wouldn't be happy there in the long run.

While there are the usual haters on this forum, I'm not one. I hope SWA has a very long and successful run and those that like it there are happy. There are plenty of potential passengers to go around. Besides, thanks to SWA, Delta was finally able to raise fares in Atlanta due to the dismantling of a true LCC.

Duly noted, I'll take your advice. I really wasn't looking forward to pestering my Delta acquaintances for chief pilot phone numbers.
