I disagree with respect to MCO. More on that on a minute.
A few pages back I posted on the likelihood of new hires moving east. This year I expect that swa will have 9 classes of 28 (252 new hires) with 2 classes a month which jives with previous class sizes/timelines, and stated hiring plan.
Here's a breakdown of each domicile starting with most junior and the distance from the bottom of the most junior pilot that holds that base.
Oak 0. Phx 30. Las 33. Mdw 38. Hou 86. Bwi 107. Dal 108. Den 353. Mco 552*. Atl 1963*.
Divide the numbers above by 28 and that's the number of classes you need under you to hold each domicile. If swa runs 2 classes a month this year it won't take long for a new hire to hold all but the 3 most senior bases. Last year swa typically ran 1 NH class and 1 AT a month. Since it will be all new hires this year I expect a new hire to get to Dal or Bwi in 3 months instead of the 6 that it took last year.
If a new hire stays in oak, phx, or las, they will likely be off reserve in 3-4 months.
Mco and Atl have the * because there are another couple hundred former air tran guys that can't hold Mco and over one thousand that can't hold ATL.
There is still some growth forecast at Atl (and hopefully Mco also) before the new hires come online later this year. Based on the last few vacancy bids, stated hiring for the next 2 years, and the numbers above I think a guy in the first new hire class this year will be able to hold Mco in 2 years tops and probably Atl in 5. All subject to change of course.
Cheers

Do you have to have your 3 letters of recommendation uploaded to the pilot credential site or just bring them to the interview if selected? Just curious if you lose points by not having any attached on pilot credentials.

Sorry, I have no idea how long that might take. Subscribe to this thread and I can almost guarantee that you will see guys posting when they start getting those emails and/or advance to the next stage in the process.

I filled out the southwest careers page up to uploading my resume. I had a family emergency keep me from polishing my resume and uploading last night. I got an email today saying I had until tonight to finish or my submission would expire. What's worse, submitting with a unpolished resume or letting it expire and starting over in two days? Any penalty to letting it expire? I don't expect a call this round since I'm not available for another 12 months anyway, but want to get an app on file.

I don't believe they send you an email referring you to pilot credentials. Just go to it and create a profile and fill it out. ( I have had my pilot credentials for 4 or 5 years now and it never closes. You can always update your time there even if the app is closed.)

Let it expire. I accidentally answered a question wrong (hint - don't use the tab key to move your cursor around on the questionnaire, you may hit enter by accident and check the wrong block) and got a TBNT email when I applied during the last round. I sent the people dept (hr) an email and they told me to just reapply. I did and now I work here.

They do not want them prior to interview day. They are for the hiring board post interview.

Thanks for taking the time to do this, Stitches. I certainly hope you are correct. I wonder if the growth is going to be greater to the bases getting international flying? I just don't see a base like DAL getting any bigger since they are already constrained by gates there.

Must have manly callsign and be willing to continue using it well into your 50s. Previous single seat fighter experience including ability to tell several stories that involve using your hand to represent inverted aircraft. Complete lack of knowledge of civilian airline history required. Inability to find something to talk about with regional turboprop or corporate pilots desired. Must be unable to identify Saab 340 on the ramp 3 out of 4 times. Must be convinced of the technological superiority of the 737 despite all evidence to the contrary.
