I can remember back before my Dad retired ( from SWA) he and his buddies would actually bid reserve because they would get more days off. Now they did live in base, but SWA doesn't use their reserves like other companies (There is no Airport Standby Reserve). Actually my brother, who is a 2006 hire, bid down to reserve last summer so he could be home more to coach his son's baseball team. Of course living in base makes a big difference.

I'm not sure that's really accurate, people are holding lines within a few months in the junior west bases. Reserve in base at SWA can't be that bad either? Was it it like, 15 days off and 3-4 days off between blocks?

Reserve at SW sucks. But it sucks everywhere. The regional airline I used to work for has better reserve rules. We don't keep as high a percent on reserve though. Most reserve days you will fly.

There's also a lot more days off at SW than most other places. 15 days off on a short month, 16 days off on a long month. (Vs 12/13 at most other companies) Yeah I'd rather have long-call, but if I can't then I'm glad to have the extra days off!

Not sure but SWA is no longer the only deal in town. With that being the case not sure if plunking down 7500 for a type is worth the gamble anymore. Unless already offered the job or military needing an atp and paying with gi bill.

I'm glad to be here and this is the best fit for me but with the legacies new contracts and retirements paired with SWA moral on the downswing (due to our lack of contract), it makes no sense for SWA to have the highest mins.

I'm a new hire and just had Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years off. I'm sitting at 98-99% on the seniority list. I spent almost 10 years at a regional and there was no chance of a holiday off with 10 years seniority. Also, from what I've seen moral is still outstanding compared to some of the legacies we contracted with at my last job. I guess my point is, I just got all the holidays off and average 14-15 days off a month with 85-90 hrs credit and i'm a junior reserve. I would guess my buds that just got hired at a legacy can't say the same. I agree that you would climb a seniority list faster somewhere else, I just don't think being junior here is an apples to apples comparison with other places.

New hire here too. On reserve, got HOU right away. Life is good. Luvin the company. People don't come here for the same reasons others go to legacies. It's different, but great.

Mods,
Could this thread be moved to the "Major" section, since the SWA/Airtran board has now been removed.
Thanks!

If they don't do it, maybe just start a new thread with a link back to this one?
