It's not hard to see why 3 guys who knew they would be bottom reserve holders in Oakland for at least 6 months wouldn't want to do that. Especially if they were East coast guys and maybe had a competing offer.

I highly doubt that will happen anytime soon. Maybe the type goes away in a few years, maybe.

It's all based on seniority. Considering most of the USA lives east of the Mississippi, most pilots would be living in the East or the Central part of the country. The most junior new hires end up in OAK, LAS or PHX.

It's pretty much settled out for the time being. Oakland is junior and that is where most of the recent classes have ended up. I got Phoenix my first month, but only because during the summer there was a whole lot of moving around going on. Some guys do want Oakland, and they are able to get a line fairly quickly. In the most recent bid, guys from June classes were able to hold Houston, but not Dallas (suddenly going senior) and definitely can't touch Denver, Hotlanta, or Orlando. I think it is pretty much back to the west coast moving east model with the exception of Denver going senior.
It will be interesting to see what next year holds. Atlanta is supposed to open up for the airtran guys, as it should. As they get spread around the system, though, it will be interesting to see where/how guys move to manage seniority and vacation bidding. Once new hires start again, there may be a big shift in the way things are as compared to now. Also, Houston is going to experience a lot of growth in about a year with the new terminal opening.
