Life happens. It's full of ups and downs, and sometimes it's not fair. I truly believe that you may have been smoked in the merger. You have every right to be frustrated with the way it went down, and where you wound up. You probably lost out on some money and seniority that affects your way of life. And for that, I'm truly sorry. I'm sure that everyone will agree that a lot of people got screwed, and you are probably one of them.

But you are also now vested in a GREAT company that respects you, pays you pretty darn well, and provides a lot of money for you and your family. Is it what you could be making, and in the perfect domicile? I don't know. But I do know that most people would kill for what you have. I know that yours are real first world problems. You are so blessed, and it saddens me that you can't see it.

The rhetoric you spout was probably seen as reactionary at the time and probably justified. But it's time to move on and feel blessed because you have a great job, working with a respected organization, making a ton of money, and you're flying planes! How cool is that!?!

Please donate some of your time throughout your community and see what life is like for those less fortunate. Go be a Big Brother, serve food at a soup kitchen, volunteer at the Boys and Girls club. Maybe you'll see how truly blessed you are.

I truly hope you can look beyond this one "valley" in your career and look at all the "peaks" you've had. This, too, shall pass, Whack.

Congrats on all the blessings you have had in your career. I, personally, think you'll come out alright financially in the end. Embrace the LUV--you may wind up living a happier and more fulfilling life if you let go of that sour attitude.

Yup. Good post indeed. You make some great points and I firmly agree with most of it. I actually am blessed to be flying airplanes for a stable company, making decent money (although 20% less than before).

However, the big difference in your post as opposed to the kernel's upthread, is that you can at least acknowledge that I (most of us) got screwed. THAT goes a long way. A long way.

Contrast that to the poster in question who can't understand why I'd be pi$$ed that SW pilots who were not even on property when I finished upgrading at AT got placed in front of me on the Master Seniority List, that I'd be unhappy about a 20% cut in take home pay, or that I'd be unhappy about my base closing (can partially be understood as a business decision).

I mean here you have a guy that's so clueless as to be upset that "every AT pilot got put in front of me". HELLO! They were hired BEFORE you! This guy is upset that he's hired after the Date of Merger announcement when the "snapshot" of the two lists is taken and all of the AT pilots (who were gainfully employed and on the list) were placed in front of him. Gee kernel, that's the way the 121 world is supposed to work. Maybe they didn't teach you that in your "unit".

Another newsflash there kernel, you don't know how much I make now or how much I made as a Cptn at AT, so while I wish I'd currently make what you claim, that's simply not the case although it would be if this whole fiasco didn't happen.

It's the airline industry. ^*+% happens. Carriers go bankrupt, merge, etc. I can accept that part, but not the part where SWAPA gets in bed with SWA management to have them threaten us with our jobs (blackmail us) unless we vote to give away our seats and seniority. Then instead of at least shutting their trap about it and being humble, some of these people have the audacity to continuously get on this forum to constantly remind us to "shut up and color and oh, don't forget to smile while you're at it".

All that does is serve to throw more salt in the wound. I'll get over it in my own damn time IF AT ALL and not when anybody tells me to, and certainly not when some kernel with probably 2-3,000 hours of single seat fighter time and zero clue about airline life is constantly on here ignorantly spouting off.

This certainly could have gone a lot smoother were it not for SWAPA getting Big Daddy Gary Kelly to threaten us with swallowing the turd of possible non-integration (bologna if you ask me). You guys wanted our seniority and seats? Well, you got them. Now you can deal with some of our less than ideal attitudes. It's the least you deserve, and the company can take their "LUV" and shove it straight up their APU hole.

Trying to get over it but not working so well,

Whack

You are a very poor representative of your brand and rarely make any positive contribution to this forum.

I am sure you are a real peach to fly with though...

Air Tran was a third tier carrier that was circling the toilet; surely you know this.

SWA is the big leagues and a lot of Air Tran folks lucked out and got there via the back door.
First of all it was AirTran, not Air Tran. Second of all when the merger was announced we were holding our own just fine thank you. Third, actually I was fun to fly with. Ask my former coworkers. Fourth......and most importantly for you, feel free to not even read my posts if they bother you so much. It'd have the added benefit of not wasting your time.

Any SWA guys have any advice on which hotel to stay at for the interview. They recommended a few and am curious if one is better than the other as far as meeting up with other SWA pilots

I stayed at the Doubltree and it worked out great. There were some other interviewees there and I saw several Line SW Pilots there as well. Also, they have a shuttle to the SW headquarters. Can't go wrong.

By chance, anyone know what the earliest class dates that are being filled right now are? More specifically, when might someone expect to be in training if they were called in the next week or so...as a wag. Just curious.

Thanks everyone!

I know several guys in the 1,500-2,000TPIC range who have been called/hired...common denominator, 737type. 1,000? I'm sure a few "special kids" have been called...
